This product saved my son's life.We installed this last December (2010). Today was the first time it was tested. A solid hit to the upper back of his head right on the corner of the hearth. He ended up with a small cut / bruise. The guard stayed in place just as intended. No clear source for the cut, but may just be a split rather than a cut. It was one of those falls that turns you're stomach inside out. We are lucky/blessed he did not receive severe head trauma from the fall. The hearth is marble tile. (Professionally installed over brick)The foam is adhered with the supplied adhesive.Pro's1. Nice and thick. 2. Sticks well to smooth surface. 3. easy to install. 4. Adhesive stays attached over time.(almost a year so far) 5. easy to clean. 6. It's not uglyCon's1. No adhesive supplied for rough surfaces. *Might be able to use * Or silicone, but you would have to use to remove the if you remove the guard.FYI: In researching head injuries I ran across Light Of Joy Awareness. If you have a little girl you need to google "Light Of Joy Awareness".

I have 3 granddaughters age one and under. Usually have to "hide" the stone hearth with pillows. And because the hearth is stone, it's uneven in places, but this was easy to install and fits great. I cut the corner pieces and used them to fit the angles at each side using a sharp kitchen knife. The tape seems super sticky, but time will tell. Had a heck of a time getting the film in the tape started to remove it; pair of tweezers finally did the trick. The cushion is thick and soft. You can't feel the stone edges at all when I press down. And the taupe color matches my whitewashed stone perfectly. Love this product.

The material of the cushion is great, very soft and very cushiony. I feel like it’s going to be very helpful in helping my little one not bonk his head in the fireplace. It’s a lot softer than some of the other brand name cushion strips you find in the stores. However one thing that’s bothering me more than just a little is the double sided tape it comes with. It ruined my sissors I used to cut the tape, leaving them very sticky afterwards. But My biggest complaint with the tape is that it’s so hard to remove the backing, making this a job that takes more time than I intended. Overall though, I’m happy with the product.

This easy-to-install hearth cushion provides a little protection to new walkers! While it's not beautiful, it's not an eyesore and it gets the job done.

Wanted something to cushion the edge of my fireplace to childproof it a little better without spending a lot of money. This has been the perfect solution. The adhesive is good, it can be pulled off, however, you can push it right back down and it still holds nicely. It doesn’t feel like it’s going to slide around or fall off even after a toddler pulled a piece of it off and I put it back on. They are pretty thick compared to some other types of this I have seen. I would order this again

I decided to order this after reading all the mixed reviews. I followed directions installing it and let it sit for three days without touching it. Our ten month old daughter pulled it off as soon as we let her near it. Now it does it's job as long as we go along and push the entire strip down before she is playing near it; then it holds for awhile. We're not real impressed with the stickiness, or lack thereof (maybe it's the type of bricks we have), but do feel much safer having her play there once we've pushed it down again. I'm sure even this amount of stickiness will eventually wear off.Edited a few months later: It didn't take long for the foam pieces to lose ALL stickiness. We do still like having it there in case of a fall, though our daughter does love to run off with the pieces.

Great quality foam that is soft and absorbent. Adhesive worked great for mounting to smooth tiled hearth. Look for another solution if you have a brick hearth.

Now I won't crack my head open when I slip and fall around my fireplace.

It works as advertised but it's not pretty, also trying to get the adhesive protection of the double-sided tape is really hard.

We put on the hearth cusion according to the instructions, came back the next day and it had completely fallen off. It was a pain to have to stick the adhesive strips on and then it clearly wasn't strong enough glue. We replaced it with carpet tape which held better but my 11 month old just rips the whole thing off. It does absolutely no good. Also, having to cut the actual foam into pieces to make it fit makes it look bad. I understand that this way it's universal and you can make it fit pretty much any fireplace but it would look a lot nicer as 1 uniform piece.
