Application
- Designed for blacksmith beginner or seasoned blacksmiths and Knifemakers to use to form (Drift) the hole needed to handle hand-made hammers, axes, or tomahawks etc.
- Our Axe Drift Tool provides you with exceptional forging strength, drilling/ punching the work piece giving you precise control over your work-piece while using heavy hammer blows over the anvil.
- It is forged with heavy-duty steel, built for long-term resilience and can withstand very high temperatures.
- Professional Blacksmith Drift Tool Blacksmithing Tomahawk Eye Drift / Mandrel Blacksmith Tool / Forged Axe Eye Drift.
- Used for making Wrapped tomahawk eyes or drifted eyes if proper opening slit is made.
- The process used by most smiths is to drill a series of small holes as close together in the center of the workpiece to be drifted.
- Once the holes are drilled heat the item and use a cold chisel or similar tool to split the piece.
- Once split, heat the piece again and drive the drift through the hole.
- Tap the sides of the workpiece while continuing to drive the drift into the workpiece until the drift hole gets to the desired measurement.
- The process of heating may be needed several times to get the desired shape.

This is a perfect eye drift for small to medium axes and hatchets. Very sturdy and easy to use. Comes with a varnish that burns off as you use it.

Has a not-sharp but still worrying edge on it, which isn't ideal for me, i don't know about other smiths, the tip is dulled and poorly welded - the length is not what I was expecting, but might be the only upside for this "eye drift." I didn't read the reviews, and saw this product breaks easily and, from that, I assume that this is mild, noncarbon steel. Their pictures are edited (that's expected) - it's an unfair/expensive pricing for such a low quality product. Make your own out of rebar, it's at most 5 dollars just to buy that rebar and you can use a rock as an anvil and a rock as a hammer and I'm betting that it would be way more worth it.

The texture is rough and will need to be ground, sanded and polished. You COULD use it as is but it will be harder to pass through the piece you are working on. The drift also has a poor area to strike, why someone made it this way is beyond me. The size and shape however is right on!

Broke after 5 swings, went to pick one up from a local smith's and he told me I was the 3rd this week that had came looking for one after breaking this same product. Do not recommend!!

The product broke within the first thirty minutes of use, and showed obvious manufacturers defects. Contacted seller through Amazon regarding warranty and was blown off. Do not waste your money on this product. Poor quality.
