Picked up this palm sander for wood working. So far it is working much better than the electric palm sander I was using. That thing would numb my arm after a few minutes of use. The Kobalt sander rotates smoothly with no vibration. The vacuum port is 1 1/4â€. The backer pad is threaded in a standard 5/16 – 24 threading.I also picked up a ShopVac brand 1 1/4†hose kit and 2 1/2†extension tube from Lowes when I bought the sander. The extension tube large end can be cut (2 ¾†long) and sanded to fit the 1 1/4†hose adapter. This allows me to fit the hose to the palm sander and connect it to my Ridgid shop vac. I also picked up a Neiko brand 6†and 5†hook ‘n loop sander backer pad (search Ebay) to replace the one that came with the Kobalt palm sander. As Lowes and Home Depot sell a very small array of adhesive sanding pads, none with vacuum holes, this was a must for utilizing the vacuum for indoor sanding. The 5†sanding pads fit great to the Neiko backer pad. The Kobalt sander works great with this configuration (plus an inline air oiler). Heavy sanding with 60 grit easily takes lots of material and the vacuum ports take nearly all the dust. I don’t need a mask for sanding with this.
