Purchased to replace the oem unit which probably could have been cleaned up (remove calcium) and used again. In either case this unit works as expected, no complaints.

I had a persistent drip from my shower head. Once I removed the handle I found that the valve had this stem assembly. I went ahead and ordered a replacement. Here is the key - there are two parts to this. If you find yourself wanting to replace the stem assembly you should also replace the cartridge (GP1144925 CARTRIDGE). I'm not sure why they don't sell them as set. Installation is pretty easy. Getting the old cartridge out might require a little finagling (it will slide out once the seal is broken). Once it's out - clean up the area and apply some "plumbers grease" to the two inlet gaskets (hot and cold) and the two mixer gaskets (front face of the cartridge. On a scale of plumbing difficulty/effort - 10 being removal and replacement of a dishwasher - this is about a 2.

Had a drip that drove us nuts... this valve assembly replaced the old one and fixed the leak. After a couple weeks, the leak was back. I called Kohler and they asked me to remove, relube and replace the cartridge inside the valve housing. I did that and the problem was solved. Appreciate the help and warranty coverage from Kohler. Purchase this to fix a leak on my shower however I had to purchase the whole unit because it was casued from the valve it self.Easy application as long as you know what you are doing.Only downside is that if this doesnt work for you. then only way is to purchase the whole thing all over again.

This is the part you need if the extremely fragile grooves that hold the proprietary oval gaskets against the cartridge have broken. Get a tube of the silicone faucet lube too, as the little capsule they give you is about 1/10 of the amount you need.It is possible to repair these valves, but it is such a stupid design you might really consider how difficult it would be to replace the whole assembly with a Delta.

My shower was dripping and the GP1144925 Cartridge along with the 85500 Stem Assembly solved the problem. Between the two it was a pretty pricey fix, hopefully it lasts a long time. The plumbing supplier I talked to couldn't even source the parts in Canada.

Can in a day early and worked perfectly. Had a hard time finding this part on their site but amazon was perfect
