This is exactly what I wanted. I was gifted some scented candles that I wanted to burn. However, if you blow out the candle, the wick tends to smoke and that can be enough to set off the apartment fire alarm, which is a hassle. But, if you spit on your fingers and pinch the wick to extinguish it, you can burn your fingers and still get smoke! This clever device not only allows you to extinguish the candle without making smoke, it nicely trims off the globby bits that can sometimes accumulate on the end of the wick. Now I can enjoy my scented candles without the embarrassment of setting off the fire alarm!

These work but, in my opinion, are too large to be decorative if you want to leave them out on the table.
