There aren't any tools included. It's all easy to assemble.- For the winder, make sure you put the bottom arm *under* the metal washer! The arm will fall off if you place it directly beneath the tightening nut. Lift the washer up and slide the arm around the screw, then tighten. Now it'll stay put. If the arm won't fit under the washer, loosen the screw.- The plastic handle is a bit loose on my winder. If you want to tighten it or add a rubber/felt washer to reduce rattle, you will need a socket that can reach deep into a plastic tube. The manual shows a tool for this, I do wish they had included one.- If you get the swift, check to see if any of the rings joined together during shipping. Two of mine were connected, so it wasn't opening. Separate them like you're removing a keying. You should just have connectors for the two blue thingies on each ring.- The swift is still hard to open all the way. I'm not sure why - still a problem after separating the joined rings. It is easier to close. Might try removing the pole, flipping it upside down to open, then putting it back upright. Maybe oil will help. It is totally usable, just a bit of a pain for now.- I don't like the release mechanism. It reminds me of a cheap umbrella. There's not much to grab on to, it's small and close to the pole and frame. Watch your fingers. If the pole pulls up as you try to open the swift, loosen the nut at the bottom, push it down to where you want it, and tighten the nut well.- Very happy with this clamp style, these ones will work on surfaces that have lips or metal bars on the edges. I put the winder and swift on a light sawhorse so I can move them around without unclamping anything.I do love this set, especially for the price. The winder is very sturdy and spins wonderfully. The gears are not too loud. It's excellent.I couldn't afford a separate swift and didn't want to build one, so this one will do. If you can afford a separate swift, do that. But if you're on a tight budget and don't have a swift, this will work and winding will be smoother. For me, it was 100% worth getting the bundle. I want good tension for winding homespun, and hanks are pretty for gifts and sale.

This product does require a learning curve, and it's important to follow the instruction to "start slow." Once you find the right speed for you, though, it's smooth and oh, so efficient. Your extra large skeins of yarn will be replaced by balls with flat tops and bottoms, so no more chasing round balls across a table of the floor. The yarn will be pulled from the center of the ball, and there will be no more tangling as you knit or crochet. One thing to know: The winder may hold 10 oounces, but perhaps not . If your yarn is very thick, you may have to make two balls. Either way, I love this machine!

I never used one of these before so I didn't know what to expect. It works great once you set it up and get it going. It's sturdy and simple to use resisting knots and tangles fairly easy. It does take up a good bit of space but it's size allows for larger sized yarn rolls if needed. It isn't "pretty" but it's functional and worth the money spent.

Very useful tool when you don't have a local yarn store to kindly wind your yarn purchase for you, ie when ordering yarn online. Worked well right out of the box, making 7 yarn cakes fm 7 skeins of yarn, no problem. Directions in the box covered set up and use, but I felt extra confident after watching a quick youtube demo on a similar winder. Operation noise was low and I appreciate the durable looking gears. I haven't used the swift in this listing ( additional purchase), but I did set the swift up very easily and tested it's umbrella style opening/expansion mechanism. Swift's lifting mechanism was easy to adjust to varying amounts of height, which also creates different amounts of swift extension ( to customize for different sized yarn hanks). Swift will be used to hold yarn hank ( untwisted first to make a big loop of yarn that is "held" by the swift while winding it into yarn cakes. The clamp that holds the swift to the table needed the padding of an open magazine between it and my wood table edge so that a circle shaped scratch didn't permanently appear on my wood table. Purchasing the winder and the swift allows winding both yarn skeins and yarn hanks without having to hold the skein or hank in hand, or needing an extra person to hold them for you while winding.

This is my second yarn winder. The first was more expensive and a great disappointment to me. The assembly of the LXD was quick and easy. The operation of the winder is smooth and has truly exceeded my needs and expectations. This winder is sturdy and feels comfortable to use and I feel safe in believing it will stay up to the task of winding my yarn for easy use. Thank you!

The gears work so well. Made with good materials. I love it. The last one I had broke within 3 hours. This one is so much better!

Love this yarn winder. I’ve purchased cheaper ones that broke shortly after I started using them. This one has lasted two year so far.
