I love this little chipper. It will chew up branches up to 3 inches, but if most of your branches will be that big, any chipper this size will struggle and you probably want a commercial machine. For branches 2 inches and under, it's a workhorse and will fly through them. I love this compact design, it's very easy to store. The discharge chute does a great job directing clippings into a wheelbarrow, no collection bag is needed. When you assemble, be sure NOT to take off the bolt and washer on the "engine side" that will anchor the discharge chute on. The instructions show it disaggregated, so I went so some length to get the bolt off. What followed was a three-hour epic trying to get the bolt back on, because the heat shield was in the way and I couldn't get the bolt back in the hole. The discharge chute is built in a way to allow you to slide the discharge chute over this engine-side bolt **with the bolt still on**. Learn from my pain :-) If by chance you do remove this bolt, removing the heat shield is the only way I could figure out to get the bolt back in. This required an impact driver, as the heat shield was anchored down very firmly.

I have what most people would call a medium sized backyard in a suburban neighborhood. I like the idea of not letting anything go to waste so we compost as much as we can in our household. This includes trimmings from all our landscaping as well as our vegetable garden. I bought this machine so I can compact our yard waste and compost it. For trimmings from pruning trees and shrubs it does an excellent job. It is more than powerful enough to chew through this material. I am not a handy person at all when it comes to motors, and I was able to get this machine started on the very first pull. I have had this for a month and mulched down several wheelbarrows worth of material down. My compost bins are really cooking with an internal temp of 120 F and I couldn’t be more satisfied with this result.Things to be cautious of:1. You have to be careful when pushing fresh green leafy material through. If it is too moist, the outlet will clog. The outlet can be removed and unclogged if needed which isn’t too hard. But it’s easier to just have a little patience when feeding stuff, or leave moist material out to dry a little before mulching it.2. The exhaust from the motor points in the same direction as the outlet chute and the exhaust air is very hot. It will melt plastic or rubber that is too close. I’ve been mulching stuff directly into a large plastic bin and i just have to place it as the right angle to avoid the heat. Not a big problem, just need to be aware of where the exhaust is located.

to help recover after a big storm, this chipper really made the job easier and was not that hard to assemble. It does what it says it will in it’s description and it is not taking too much room in my garage.

I bought this machine mainly for leaves (and small branches that occasionally fall off my trees).. This machine has a very small opening where the leaves get mulched. It plugs up super easy and the mulch that comes out is hardly mulched at all. If you have nothing else better to do then staying out in the yard all day and being super patient as you throw handful of leaves at a time into the chute could be satisfying to some people. I bought this thinking it would be efficient but my lawnmower actually does a better job at mulching. Do not waste your money on this machine thinking it will save you time in the long run.

Assembled easily. Started easily. Great wood chipper. I have used other chipper shredders in the past and as I was assembling I had doubts about the design on this one, but it handles branches well. Up to 2 1/2 inches it burns right through them breaking them down to much finer chips than I had anticipated. It handles 3" branches well, but you have to either use short pieces or feed them gradually to avoid bogging the engine down and killing it. I had fresh branches from some maple trees I took down and several years-old dried out branches. This unit performed admirably. Through trial and error you learn tricks to keep everything flowing through it. I had no "clogging" problems at all. I highly recommend for general household use.
