Bought these to test my kids toys for lead. All the wood painted toys tested negative but a bell that was advertised as stainless steel tested positive. The cotton swab turned pink immediately on contact. I will probably be buying more because 10 went fast.

Half the tests were already red and used up right out of the package. The remaining 5 tests all detected lead, even when rubbed on a glass test surface.Zero quality control.

Very accurate, exactly what I needed and great for the price. Easy instructions to follow. Results were almost immediate and it was easy to read the results. I definitely recommend this to test your things.

Like others have commented, it's a little hard to discern from the color change how much, if any, lead is in the tested item. I was testing a painted wooden toy from the 60's which seemed to have no lead in the paint, based on the color not changing very much. Honestly, it could have been cleaning off some of the pigment itself. Hard to say. I also tested a fishing weight as a control, and it was pretty clear that it tested positive for lead based on the color change.

It seems as though most of my antiques have lead based paint and these lead testers showed which ones. I learned that coating the piece with a sealer keep a the paint sealed. When I tested a sealed piece, it showed negative. Same piece with no sealer showed an immediate color change.
