Dimmer works on mine. I like the size for working on watch movements and parts. It's big enough that I don't have to worry about parts falling off the edge and it has good working space. Exactly what I needed as my soldering microscope didn't come with a bottom light.

These lights are sold by many and all have the same look.Pro:It is an evenly lit light source for slide viewingCons:Only the first 1/8 turn adjusts the light very slightly, you get a on, less bright, and bright. No dynamic range light I had hoped.Good enough for simple slight viewing.

This illuminator gives soft, even light. I use it mainly for high-magnification Macro and Micro photography of tiny subjects on microscope slides, placing the light below the glass plate supporting the slides. The brightness is the same across the width of the photos.

Not CSA approved, and the dimmer only worked as an on/off switch. In other words, high or low.
