The clowns who built my home used plastic versions of this pull chain unit - they were ungrounded. I am replacing all of them.For another $5, I’d like to see another version with a switch on this unit that allows the integral grounded outlet the ability to be “always on†or switched off with the pull chain.As well made as the porcelain body on this bulb housing may be, the pull chain mechanism is notequal quality, it just feels a bit wonky.Previous experience with this exact outlet is that the pull chain switch wears out with regular use and it can arc inside. I’ve seen that happen happen myself multiple times. But the porcelain body helps.This is still the best quality pull chain switched bulb and external outlet on the market. Hope this helps!

I got this to upgrade an old receptacle. This arrived intact and seemed good quality. I figured porcelain would provide a little better quality than plastic. I did not realize that this does work with older ceiling fixtures so when I first got everything hooked up the holes did not align. No problem. While the directions do mention the punch outs, it did not offer a “how to†but I quickly found one online with the same brand. Using a flathead screwdriver and a 2x4, I popped out the holes and reattached everything.I did notice that when getting all the wires inside, when twisting just a little it did bend some of the metal connectors inside and while trying to get the fixture tightened a little bit of the porcelain cracked, but I don’t know if that just happened to be part of the cutout that I made. Either way when all was done it felt firmly attached. The switch worked as did the outlet, which operates independently of the light. I used this in the garage so I could turn off the light but leave a fan running for better air circulation.I would recommend this for such purposes, especially with older limited homes.

I went to replace a lightbulb in our basement and when I unscrewed the light bulb, the receptacle came with it...the ceramic broke in a couple of different places. Normally this would be a trip to Wally World or Tarzheh but I was Amazon and started looking here. I looked at more than a few and settled on this one. I'm not a great handyman because I usually break the thing I'm trying to fix. I actually got the old one unscrewed and screwed the wires onto the new one. The person who put the original one in crammed too many wires into the box so it was a little difficult getting everything pushed back in...but I did it! The socket works great, I can plug in something if I need to, and there's a string to pull if I don't need the light. I love it! I bought another one!

Ok, I'm sometimes lazy and order things from Amazon just to save the time and fuel and I dont learn my lesson. Now that we've cleared that out of the way...I needed some pull chain light sockets with built in outlets for my basement and garage so I ordered this item. Leviton is a good brand and I don't usually have problems with their products. Well, I have ordered these on 2 seperate occasions from Amazon so I didn't have to run to a hardware store. The first order was for 3 and when I received the delivery I found one of the sockets (which are made of porcelain) broken in the manufacturers box. My shipping box was completely dent and damage free. The manufacturers box was also damage free. So, unfortunately I had to send back all 3 because of 1 broken one so Amazon could get me a replacement. Amazon had my replacements sent and delivered to me within 24 hours, good job Amazon. Sooo, I installed all the sockets and everything went well, all are operational and perform great. I decided I needed one more so I took a chance ordered another one. Well, today I received it and guess what...broken. Again, sending this one back and a replacement is on its way.I don't know if these are coming from manufacturing damaged, being damaged during shipment or damaged at the Amazon warehouse (a whole case being dropped, etc). So, here's my lesson, I THOUGHT I was saving time and gas by ordering these from Amazon but I am using my "saved" time and fuel to go to the UPS Store to drop the broken ones off to be returned. Lol!The sockets themselves:They are single pole with a grounding screw built in. Three wires is all that's required for hookup but if you don't have a ground wire they can still be hooked up.The outlet works great and is convenient for a room that has no outlets in the walls. Plug is tight when inserted and holds well.Don't tighten these with alot of force or you risk breaking the ears that the screws go through, it's porcelain. Get them tight but don't gorilla grip it!I ordered the white color and they are a true white.These will work fine for incandescent, CFL, LED light bulbs.Includes a string cord to attach to the ball chain to extend the pull switch. A little tricky to get on but with patience you'll get it.Includes new screws for mounting in box.Overall I'm happy, they work great, switch is smooth operating. I just might not order again from Amazon due to the inconvenience. Hope this helps.

Item:Leviton 9726-C One-Piece Glazed Porcelain Outlet Box Mount, Incandescent Lampholder, Pull Chain, Top Wired (White)This Leviton lamp holder with outlet was exactly what I needed to add an outlet in my cold cellar without having to run a wire. It fits perfectly in place of my old plastic lamp holder and feel solid.The pull switch works well and the outlet holds a 3 prong plug snugly. It's excellent for the price and looks nicer than the original plastic one.I probably didn't have to run a ground wire, as one of the mounting screws completes the connection to the grounded box, but I did anyhow. I ended up using a piece of insulated wire as I was concerned that it might touch the other connections when mounted.This comes with screws and a pull chain extension string. Note that the box was already opened.5 stars!
