I recently purchased a French horn and began lessons.Although I discovered different opinions on the use of light vs. heavy oil, my instructor, a very experienced professional horn player and teacher, advised me to use light oil under the rotor caps and in the slides and a heavier oil in the seams between the stationary valve plates and the turning rotor posts on the back side of the horn.Monster Light Rotor Oil is a high-quality synthetic light oil with a convenient blunt needle to provide accurate placement. The heavier oil that I use as above is the Monster Bearing and Linkage Oil. Both work beautifully.

I once had accidentally ruined my trombone's F valve by adding heavy "linkage" rotary oil to it. After spending lots of effort and different oils, I kind of revived the valve but it requires very frequent oiling since then. After using this oil, I can feel that the valve movement is faster, more smooth, and now the valve requires less oiling. I am happily impressed.The only downside is its petroleum odor. Not strong but easily sensible.

Doesn’t work any better than anything else I’ve used. Paxman 20A and Paxman 44X (six valves).

Really makes a difference if you have only used "regular" valve oil. Action is noticeably lighter. Though it does seem that I need to apply this more often.

This oil is great! Needs to be used in conjunction with the bearing linkage oil to properly maintain your french horn valves. My horn's valves have worked so much better and quieter since switching to this oil. I highly recommend this product and will continue purchasing it in the future.

They have changed their packaging, but not updated their photo. The needle is much smaller now. Be warned!
