I did a rebuild on my 5.3 and was doing it in the engine bay. There isn't much information online or YouTube about how to get these installed if it's your first time. This is how I got mine installed:Use a small quality rubber mallet. Don't be banging it in with force. Small taps around it. You will know when it's fully seated once it bottoms out against the block. About half of it will be sticking out for your head to properly sit on.Do not under any circumstance use an actual hammer you will guarantee bending something. Just a very small rubber mallet with taps around it until it's fully seated.

These dowels fit snug to the block and there enough give to size the down if need be. I was expecting to fight these going in, but was shocked that a firm push set them in place.
