Our mattress itself is quite thick and fairly new. I've had three different mattress pads and none of them stayed in place. I saw the additional stitching as well as the plastic/vinyl type backing and decided to give it a try. It seems to give some stability to the bottom fitted sheet and does not move every time one of us moves. It pretty much stays put on the mattress.The only thing I didn't care for was that when I washed it after the rinse/spin cycle the plastic side was down and seemed to trap the water and didn't spin it out. I simply turned it over, arranged it in the washer again and did a final spin that finally left it just slightly damp as opposed to soaking wet. I think I just have to be careful about how I arrange it in the washer when I wash it. Overall it seems to work well. It's not crinkly which was also a worry. We didn't need a really fluffy padded mattress topper. Just something functional. This was it!

Bought this rather than a highend one that was $350. It was absolutely comparable. Also created a soft cover over the mattress.
