Started saddle hunting two seasons ago. Used a figure 8, Prussic knots etc to rappel. Duck Kong to ascend. I like that this devise serves both purposes when one sticking. It’s easy to use well made, if you can get your hands on one of these I highly recommend worth the money

I (Male, 255 lbs) have been using this products for months now and I have no complaints. It works flawlessly as a belay device. I’m able to easily hook it up before I leave the ground, and easily remove it when I get back on the ground after my descent. Its small design makes it easy to bring with me anywhere I might climb. I mostly use this device for saddle hunting. My rope that I currently use is 11 mm in diameter but the Madrock has no problem champing this line.

I absolutely love mine. I slipped the other day repelling from my platform and because of the safeguard I didn't fall. It stopped the rope like it was designed for and I was 100% safe.

Absolutely the best and easiest way to descend a rope! I use mine for hunting.Pros: Lightweight. Easy to use. If you let go, you stop. Fairly quiet but I put a wrap of camo hockey tape around my carabiner to quiet it even more. Really lightweight!Cons: It takes a few times practicing to control the descent smoothly. It’s kinda like the first time you drive a car. It’s not smooth but gets better after 3-4 times using it.I definitely recommend this if you can afford it. Much safer and easier than using a figure 8. Best saddle hunting upgrade I’ve ever made. I use it for mobile hunting and for permanent spots that have a ladder.

I bought this to one stick for saddle hunting and glad I did but I always but a back up incase like with tag end of my 40 feet rope about 6 inches from mad rock I put over hand on a bit or just take prusik and put it b4 mad rock

Bought this for repelling down from trees when saddle hunting. It works great and makes getting down so much quicker and safer. First attempt will be kind of scary if you’ve never done something similar before but after a couple times it’s so easy and fun.

I just began using the Safeguard in the context of rescue where we are using it as an adjustable attachment to the primary line for the litter attendant. Although I only have few weeks of experience with the Safeguard, it is doing everything expected. In this use case it allows the attendant to rappel lower or alternatively quickly rig a 3:1 using a Tibloc to ascend the line for positioning relative to the litter.The one negative aspect of the device is that the rope constantly does not want to run over the rounded portion of the device but rather runs on the adjacent edge, which is more square. If possible I would have given the device a rating of 4.5 rather than 5 because of this issue.I have no experience using the Safeguard as a belay device so cannot speak of that application.
