My music binder is heavy, and it causes the height of my Manhassett music stand to slowly decrease. A fellow musician told me about this attachment. It's easy to install, and works well.

Before you install the Manhassett Shaft Lock it is IMPORTANT that you know that the chrome tube came from the factory with "stickum" on it approximately 5" below the stand's desktop. This is the stuff that kept the desktop from sliding down for a long time when you first bought it.The problem is that "stickum" got tired and doesn't work well anymore.You really must remove that stickum before you install the shaft lock. Otherwise, when you tighten the shaft lock it will grab what is left of the stickum, and could get permanently stuck there.... not allowing you to make any further adjustments.To avoid this, go to Home Depot and buy the smallest tube of Goo Gone (ask them for a solvent that will remove stickum... no kikking) and they'll find Goo Gone for you.Put a little Goo Gone on a paper towel and rub it over the tired stickum ... et voila, mes amies! C' est fini! Nice and clean chome shaft!Next, just follow directions that come with the shaft lock, and go back to tooting your flute!

This is a great heavy duty stand at a great price for what you get. This is the only stand I have never had trouble with. Stable even on carpet with the heavy base. Nothing is worse than a stand tipping at the wrong time. I know you can pay less but it will not compare or last as long. This is a bargin. As a plus they have great add ons. Get the add on metal extention that attaches to the page holder and the little plastic shaft lock for sure. You will be glad you did. The non slide and scratch foot addition makes it more stable yet. Have the add on bottom tray but not really needed and gets in the way of knee or when moving. If you need a place for water or pop it's good to have.

It worked kind of OK at first, but was very difficult to install and adjust the height back down. Hard on the fingers to tighten and loosen.I could have lived with that, but now I can't get it to loosen at all, so my stand is stuck up a bit too high. If I strain my hands and arms, it will turn, but no longer loosens. I suppose I'll have to break, cut, or grind it off somehow. Rather disappointed.Instead of this product, a large black binder clip works great at a fraction of the cost, and won't break.

This product works in keeping the stand from moving up or down. The installation was rather simple with the exception that it does not take very much to over-tighten it stripping the very tip of the screw. But I moved it up to the chrome part and tighten it there and then pushed it down onto the black tube in which the chrome one goes inside. After that it is secured and works perfectly. Have had no problems.

The purpose of this small piece of equipment is to prevent the desk of your Manhasset stand from slowly sinking under the weight of a large book or a thick pile of music. It works by increasing the friction on the shiny, inner moveable shaft of the stand as a result of tightening a plastic clutch that's attached to the outer, black part of the stand. It will work, but only after a manufacturing flaw is corrected. When I first installed the item on my stand I could hardly get the shiny, inner shaft to pass through the clutch because the fit was so tight. After installing the part completely, it was obvious that adjusting the desk up and down required far too much effort to be practical. I removed the part and took a look inside the clutch portion, and found two very small plastic bumps that were probably mold marks. They decreased the inner diameter of the clutch just enough to make moving the shaft up and down through the clutch frustratingly difficult. I cut them out carefully with a fine exacto knife, and then used a small curved file to smooth the inner surface. When I reinstalled the unit, it worked fine. I can put a heavy book on the desk without it sinking, and adjust the height of the desk without too much effort. I'm giving this item a rating of three stars because of the necessity of performing surgery on the piece in order to allow it to work well. Someone without tools, or without the skills to do this kind of detailed modification is going to find this item very difficult to use, and highly frustrating. Manhasset really needs to look at their manufacturing process and make sure that it results in an item that works as advertised.

I’m using this lock for my Manhasset conductors stand. This piece works and it was easy to install.....that being said, it would be better for Manhasset to include this with their stand other wise many people will be disappointed with it. Without this lock, my stand was not used to its fullest extent because more than one regular sized songbook would make the shaft descend to the bottom. The lock solves all of that but because the poor shaft design on this conductors stand, I probably won’t look at Manhasset again.

As a conductor with a heavy score book, I found my Voyager stand kept sinking down. This add-on works very well to keep it at the desired height. My only complaint is that when you turn it to tighten it in place, if you go too far, it's loose again. This is different from the way the stand desk attaches to the post. You just have to be careful not to turn it too far, so it does work OK.
