I had previously ordered one of these from a different seller here on Amazon and the 1st one I ordered came way out of wack in resistance. I tested the 1st one with a ohm meter. If I would have put that thing on my boat, the trim gauge would have shown full up when the outdrive was barely up. I sent it back.I ordered this product that I'm reviewing and it was within the resistance range when checked with an Ohm meter. Now, I will say. I have a Four Winns Horizon 190 boat with a 5.0 Volvo Penta SX-M sterndrive. It was a little bit challenging to change out my factory one. I had to feel around with my hand (couldn't see) in the engine bay and find the factory trim sender wire coming through the transom. I then went to the back of the boat, wrapped and taped on a good quality string (i use a masonry string because it can be pulled so tightly). I then used a screw driver and pushed the old grommet through the transom from the outside. I then went back in the engine bay and pulled the old sending unit wire through along with the string. The, I used the string as a fish tape and pulled the new one in.I must say, I read a lot of reviews about this thing failing once it hits the water. obviously water intrusion. I coated this thing in liquid electrical tape prior to installation. Like all over the unit. The only place that I didn't coat was the shaft of the rheostat - obviously.A dry test of this thing installed worked as it should. No issues. I am expecting to get the boat in the water in a few days and if it fails, I will return here to adjust my review. If it continue to works, then you won't hear from me.

Replacement for my non functioning trim gage. Works great and needs a little adjustment when I have another person to help.

Sends a signal to the gauge but it has a sticking point then then needle jumps a bit. It could be the old guage but the stock unit that broke had a smoother signal. Still let's me know where the trim is at though.

The resistance range matched volvo part. I returned 2 from other vendors because range was twice sensitive and gage moved very fast. This one worked perfectly.

EDIT: I can now tell you the longevity. 10 days. At least it worked, for a minute. The 2 volvo branded were DOA. For the price, I would have been happy to get a season out of it, but 10 days is abysmal.I purchased this for a DP-S1 drive. Prior to purchasing I bought 2 new OEM volvo penta senders from marine parts dealers that did not work. I was reluctant to purchase this but figured for $35 I didn't have much to lose and the VP senders are 0 for 2. I can't say what the longevity will be but they ohm out proper and work the way they should.

connector terminals are poor quality, have loose crimps. the through hull grommet has a dab of silicone and floats along harness. the sensor case is poorly moulded and the two halfs do not meet flush and do not allow the bolt tabs to seat properly. also the range of the potentiometer is too grait for the gage by about half.
