Your cart is empty.What are Cow Magnets? Cow magnets are popular with dairy farmers and veterinarians to help prevent the harmful effects of cattle ingesting metal objects. While grazing, cows eat everything from grass and dirt to nails, staples and bits of bailing wire (referred to as tramp iron). Tramp iron tends to lodge in the honeycombed walls of the reticulum, threatening the surrounding vital organs and causing irritation and inflammation. The cow loses her appetite and decreases milk output (dairy cows), or her ability to gain weight (feeder stock). Cow magnets help prevent this by attracting and holding stray metal from the folds and crevices of the rumen and reticulum.

These powerful magnets come in handy for multiple uses including my unconventional application .I recently had to replace a freeze plug in my vintage car , and one of these held with needle nose visegrips , was very effective in removing rusted debris and drilled metal filings from the engine block near the freeze plug hole .Again , unconventional but effective for this application in a very confined space .

These composite ferrite cow magnets are strongest along the sides. (The silvery AlNiCo cow magnets are strongest at the rounded ends.) These are constructed so that the individual black magnet segments have north poles pushed together, and south poles pushed together, so that if you wrenched off the ends the magnets would fly apart. (Similar poles repel; north attracts south.) This pushes the field out to the sides at the four sets of silvery spacers (washers) between the magnets. If you're using these for your cows, they'll hold a lot of tramp iron along the sides. If you're using this for demonstrations of magnetism, they're interesting because they're NOT a simple two-pole magnet, and they'll stick very strongly to a steel surface... along their sides.

Did not buy for use with cattle. Needed to find metal shards that had gotten into a fine powder during processing. Worked great. Very strong magnets and got us over the hill until we can source a professional unit for our needs

Amazon shipped these twice in a plastic bag with no protective padding allowing the little cardboard box the magnets come in to be destroyed. Magnets then were exposed to typical rough shipment handling. The black ferrite material was chipped/flaking off when it arrived. Magnets themselves are strong, but with material sloughing off, not worth keeping.
