Due to a long ago ruptured disk, my fingers can get painfully frost bitten quickly while outside in Buffalo's frigid winters. I have resisted wearing mittens because of the usual dexterity issues. The condition has only worsened over the years and was starting to affect my ability to enjoy the many outdoor winter activities we so enjoy, as well as performing necessary jobs like clearing snow from cars, driveways and sidewalks. I have bought more pairs of winter gloves over the years than I’d like to admit, from the most expensive Spider ski gloves, to Walmart specials, to heated gloves that take 4, double-A batteries each! The results were always the same. After years of prodding from my wife, I finally decided to try mittens. I settled on these particular ones because of the ratings and the many convenient features. I’m happy to say these have been a game changer for me. They are velvety soft inside, rugged yet pliable enough on the outside, wind resistant, and they keep my hands dry and at a comfortable temp, which I haven’t experienced in years. I have found the wrist leash to be extremely practical and I really appreciate the large carabiner to connect the two gloves for storage. The cuff closure cinch works great and the fleece feels wonderfull. Suffice to say, these mittens have made a believer out of me and I will never go back to gloves.

I got these mittens in lieu of a heavy duty winter glove. My intended use is mostly snow blowing and shoveling so it seemed the superior warmth of a mitten would be a good tradeoff for the dexterity of a glove.First the pros: This mitten is nicely designed and seems to be of good quality. It's primarily a polyester shell of some sort with leather trim in various places. The inner liner is a soft fleece material tailored with fingers like a glove. So you're basically putting your hand in a soft glove that is surrounded by an outer mitten. It's very comfortable to wear. The mittens have some nice features such as separate elastic wrist bands with a short tether that is detachable from the mitten. This lets the glove just hang off your wrist when you take it off. Another nice feature is an adjustable strap that cinches the wrist tight above the cuff. This strap can be tightened and loosened with just one hand and with the mittens on. The cuff itself adds extra protection in terms of snow getting inside the glove.Next the cons: Not too much to complain about here. The first thing that stands out to me is that the mittens seem a little narrow/tight across the palms. By most sizing diagrams I wear a large based on my palm width and index finger length. I'd say my hands are just slightly wide and usually a large glove will fit me comfortably with a little room/air pocket around the fingers and palm. I got this mitten in large and while the fingers fits as is typical for me, I found the width to be a little tight at the palms. I can feel this the most when I open and close my hands. The mittens are new so maybe that area will loosen up after more wear.Warmth, is the biggest issue that I noticed. I've owned leather down filled mittens many years ago and they were warm even in the most extreme low temps. While these mittens are not down they are supposed to have a high tech insulation. I was expecting the same warmth as my old down mittens but they don't seem to be much warmer than a pair of gloves. I used the mittens for the first time snow blowing my property in only about 30 degree F temps. I put the mittens on after starting the snow blower so my hands were a little cold to begin with. Even after wearing these for 20 minutes my hands didn't really feel that warm. It wasn't until I had been snow blowing probably 45 minutes that my hands felt warm, but that was because I was really warm head to toe from so much physical activity. I think the issue is that because of the tighter than usual fit there didn't seem to be good air pocket between the liner and the outer shell. Even grabbing the shovel handle or snow blower handle it didn't feel like there was much padding/insulation between my hand and the handle. So the bottom line and my first impression is that these are only of average warmth and I was expecting much more from a mitten. This is the reason for four stars. It's early in the winter so they are going to get much more use and I'm hoping my impression regarding warmth changes.

Just got these delivered the other day and they’re quite nice. Glad I sized up though because the XL fits like a glove! Lol. For the price, definitely can’t complain. Looking forward to using them this ski season!

Very disappointed in this purchase… a seam ripped where the wrist tether attaches to the cuff of the mitten, and the tether material is frayed to the point it cannot be re-sewn together. I knew these mittens were not the highest end option but as a mid grade option I expected a lot more use than one time before seeing this kind of wear and tear. It was ripped after a very typical day of skiing with no extreme conditions on the mittens or the tether to cause this failure of the product. I am contacting the manufacturer and if they are able to correct the problem I will update this review if/when that time comes.

They are warm and good for the mountain but the straps broke apart on the first day.

Definitely a step up...longer cuff, inner liners, glove leashes.I've had many varieties. these are the best.
