I purchased this for my quarter acre backyard garden. The soil is clay loam and had not been worked in years. I had in previous years tilled the soil with amendments but wanted to try reducing tillage and the agricultural extension agent suggested a broadfork.I chose this option because of the American made solid steel construction because I want durability and reliability and customer service. And this has a lifetime warranty and the company has been around a while. It is heavy, for sure, and quite a workout to use. I stand on the cross bar and wiggle it back and forth to get the tines deep, then gently pull the handles back to lift and open the soil beneath the surface. It works really well but I can only do a few actions at a time before I need a break.

This creature is so cool. It is on the expensive side but is American made and well made. It's quiet - no gas are batteries required.I've used it to break up the soil and also to put out edging bricks. It's easy to use by wiggling back and forth and stepping down. I bought the 12" and that seems adequate but I may need the 14" version as my garden grows.

We are in our 60’s and this should last for the rest of our lifetime or at least as long as we are able to operate it. Sturdy and breaks up the ground as it should. The 12 inch one is perfect for us.

This is built to last a lifetime. And your children's lifetime. And grandchildren. I did a test row as soon as I unpackaged it. Excellent results. I think I would like another 3" on the handles.Update (2/2023): I've had this about 10 months. This is not a substitute for a rototiller, which is a different approach to gardening. This broadfork is for no-till gardening. It is an effective, easy-to-use tool. I found it best to go over an area, let the chickens pick through it, and pick out the weeds a day or two later.Damp ground works best. Soggy, heavy clay, large rocks, or very compacted soil will make the work more difficult.

It is heavy, and well built. I am not worried about breaking it in my heavy clay soil.

Alabama clay! Have raised beds but clay soil lurks about 6 to 8 inches down. This tool reaches down and is breaking it up. I love what this tool is doing to my garden beds. Looking forward to spring planting and seeing improvements to soil. For reference, I am 69 and weigh 120 - 130 lbs. There is a learning curve to using, but once I got my method down look out clay soil!!
