Byzance Dark cymbals are hand hammered and completely unlathed, exposing the raw B20 bronze with an oven-blackened look. The crashes, splashes and chinas open up just enough, then get out of your way quickly while the hihats and rides provide clarity, cut and volume, along with a prominent dark tone. A special selection within Byzance Dark are the Spectrum hihats and rides that are partially lathed for more definition. These cymbals are made in Turkey from cast B20 bronze and are hand hammered into shape by skilled Turkish cymbal smiths.

I bought this after using a zildjian sweet ride for several yrs. I wanted something a little darker and clearer with more definition. It is perfect! The meinl sound samples are very accurate and were helpful when I purchased this cymbal. Can fit in many styles including rock, pop and funk.

Received this ride cymbal this week. First off, the packaging. The cymbal was shipped inside a plastic bag with no padding. I was very concerned about this and spent some time checking that the cymbal was not bent or deformed in any way. I would highly suggest that these items be shipped in a padded box or something that will provide some protection. The cymbal itself is amazing! The bell is clear and just raw with a nice dark ping. Riding on the shoulder of the cymbal with my nylon tip drumstick produces an awesome tone and it is not out of control. Sometimes this can be a problem with these larger diameter rides, not the case here. Crashing on this ride produces amazing tones, my bandmates made me play the ride all by itself at our last rehearsal. WOW was the comment that kept coming up from my band mates, Meinl-NICE JOB! This is my first Meinl cymbal, it will not be my last.I am giving this 4 out of 5 stars due to the shipping issue listed above.

Wow, this is such a great ride! The tone is a little low for my taste, but still my favorite (I have 5 others, from Meinl and Zildjian)

I needed a pingy ride with a great bell and this exceeds many other cymbal brands version of heavy ping rides in terms of variety of tones you can get from different areas of the cymbal. However it is such a heavy cymbal that the crash sound is somewhat unpleasant compared to thinner rides or even a Zildjian A Custom 20 for example. Maybe others will disagree, but for me this cymbal excels for the clear sticking required from ride and ride bell tones for progressive forms of rock/metal. It's a great jazz cymbal too if you want something pingy and defined but with a good balance of dark, washy undertones.
