About this item

  • Hand hammered in Turkey from cast B20 bronze alloy — the 22" Dual Crash-Ride gives you articulate definition that activates the whole cymbal while not washing out — when crashing, it will develop into a dark, trashy crash with a response that swells
  • Texture galore — the hammering and lathing combination results in a silky-smooth feel with earthy definition, wrapped in a touch of shimmering glow from the outer band of lathing and polishing
  • Effortless sound — the thin nature of Byzance Dual cymbals in combination with the unique surface puts them in a musical range that is useful in virtually any style — the underside of the cymbals is fully lathed to help give players a smooth feel
  • Increase musicality — Byzance Dual cymbals have become an immensely popular choice among top recording and touring artists — the ability these cymbals have to increase a sense of musicality makes them highly sought-after
  • Modern versatility rooted in tradition — hand hammered into shape in Turkey using cast B20 bronze, Meinl Byzance cymbals are deeply rooted in traditional cymbal crafting methods, yet their old-world background is dialed-in to 21st century needs

The Meinl B22DUCR Byzance Extra Dry 22" Dual Crash-Ride features a stunning contrast of extra dry and brilliant finishes, with a unique combo of hammering and lathing. The dual playing zones are great for riding and crashing. It opens up easily for trashy accents.

This cymbal sounds wonderful and is worth its steep price tag. Offers a combination of warm and dark tones making for a unique sound. It looks so amazing!Sound: Combination of dark and bright tones with warm aftertones with pockets of dark washiness. Definitely one of a kind sound that took me a couple listens to decide how I felt about it. I ended up loving it. I got the 18'' at first and loved it so much I got this 20''. The cymbal is labeled a "crash/ride". It serves its purpose better as a crash cymbal but can still be used as an OK ride.Durability: A salesman told me that cymbals like this tend to be more fragile and prone to breaking, HOWEVER, I have never broken a cymbal and don't anticipate breaking this one. I think it looks fragile because of the detailed finish but believe its just as prone to breaking as other cymbals. I've had it for about a month now and have had no issues or hints of possible breakage, all in all I say its a very durable cymbal that can take hard hitting despite its fragile look.Finish: The 20'' differs from the 18'' in that the bottom side finish of the 18 is all brilliant like the outside material on the top of the cymbal, whereas the 20 has the same finish on the top as it does the bottom (part dark part brilliant). One of the most gorgeous finishes I have ever seen on a cymbal.Adaptability with other cymbals: One thing I was concerned about with this cymbal is how it would sound in coherence with the rest of my cymbal setup. It fits in a lot better than I thought it would and I think I could even pull it off as a suspended cymbal in an orchestral setting. I don't see this cymbal being used in a traditional jazz setup because it's not staccato enough as a ride and a little to dark and washy as a crash. Of course, unless you're a professional jazz drummer a cymbal like this will work just fine and still sounds great. In summary, I had a hard time dealing with the price tag on this cymbal but when I looked around at other 20'' cymbals I realized that the price was similar to other 20 inch cymbals and I liked this one the most because of its shimmery, dark, unique sound and stunning finish. I really love this cymbal and it sounds SO good with the 18'' version right next to it. I think drummers will be really happy with this cymbal in their setup.

One of the most beautiful sounds I have ever heard percussionaly. Bold but soft. Washy but not at all ringy or gongy. I was never one to truly appreciate light, fancy stick work. This symbol has me wanting to learning stuff like I’m brand new.
