This is amazing. I can barely hear it when my son plays. I love his playing; I’m a musician myself, but sometimes I’m on sensory overload or he wants to practice at midnight. This helps keep our sanity.

This is my first metal mute so I don’t have anything to compare to. But my biggest concern is the fit on the bridge. It doesn’t have the natural slant like the bridge itself so it sits very awkward and loose. It does mute the sound very well especially in comparison to my rubber mute. But it seems to mess with the sound of the strings. I am still at the beginning stage of my violin playing so it could be a technique problem for me. But I wanted to add that detail just in case.

My son has a 1/8 size violin and we travel often so we needed a way to help muffle the sound when practicing in hotel rooms, on the camper, etc.. It's hard to find a mute specifically for smaller size violins but this one worked perfectly! It fits with just enough room to spare so it doesn't touch the strings. I definitely recommend it for on the road or anytime you need a quieter practice!Sturdy, strong metal - this will last us through many violins.

I had absolutely no problem fitting this on my 4/4 violin and my 15 1/2 inch viola. It sits on top of both bridges without any problem, and it’s quite secure, no issues with it falling off at all. I actually like this tone a lot better than the rubber covered metal mute. It also mutes far better than the regular solid rubber ones. Highly recommend this, at least give it a try, you can always send it back if it doesn’t fit. I was worried it wouldn’t fit, happy I tried this!

I would NOT recommend this mute at all. It’s solid metal and is not safe to put on your violin if it falls off (which it does) it could easily crack or even break your violin. It fall off since it’s doesn’t fit a 4/4 bridge it just sits on top of it and since it can’t sit on the bridge like a mute should, it’s makes this rattling sounds when playing the G or D string mostly the G string. Since it rattles it’s quick to fall off. It does some damage. It fell on my fingers once and it actually hurts. I can’t imagine what it would do to my violin. I will give this credit for muting the violin like a charm but other than that, WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. I bought this 2 or 3 years ago and it’s too late for a refund because I forgot about it since Ive never used it after that first couple of times. It also scratch the hell out of your bridge. Please don’t buy this and get the rubber ones instead even if the rubber one don’t mute it very well better that then possible damage to your instrument.

I REALLY love this practice mute! I am a beginner, and I have been trying out a rubber coated metal mute for the past few weeks. Problem was, it was so damn tall, that it made it really hard to see the place where I needed to place my bow. This metal mute is a lot shorter, so I can see over it WAY better! It also does a really great job of reducing the volume of the sound without making it sound different. Its quiet enough, so my husband (who is working from home right now) doesn’t run away screaming until I learn all of the proper notes, and better bow control. It also seems to grip on pretty well, maybe even better than my rubber coated metal one. I’d suggest that you just don’t turn your violin sideways, or move the violin around violently, just in case. ;)

Useless, too thin to fit with with my bridge

No esperé que funcionara tan bien por el precio tan bajo. Muy satisfecho.
