-Attention- Reduction of smell before use
Because we try to deliver natural rush grass as it is, the smell of the grass may be strong before use.
If this is a concern, after opening the package, please dry it in the sun for about one day before use. At the same time, wipe it off with a dry towel.
If you don't like the smell of grass, we recommend you don't buy it.
Avoid wetting with water
When wet with water, wipe with a dry cloth. Tatami mattress is not good with water, so if you spill water on it and then wipe it with water again, the stain will spread rapidly.
If you cannot wipe it off immediately, it may become stained.
In that case, dry it in the sun. After that, dry it in a room with a fan, etc., and it may return to former condition.
Avoid direct sunlight
Please avoid places exposed to direct sunlight. Exposure to sunlight will discolor the tatami mattress and shorten its usage time.
Air conditioners are okay, but it is not a good idea to expose them to sudden heat.
To avoid discoloration or deformation of Tatami mattress, do not expose them to hot air from a hair dryer.
To prevent mold
Open windows to let fresh air into the room.
If you "hang-dry" tatami once every six months on a sunny day, your tatami mattress will last longer.
Sunny and dry days are best, so check the weather forecast before deciding on a tatami mattress drying day.

This was a nice experience overall and it seems well-made. I wanted to try a traditional igusa mat for a long time and finally got one. I put it on top of my Japanese futon (which was right on top of my western mattress). The smell was nice and pretty gentle. Hard to describe. Grassy, like a nice hay. It looked well-made and was smooth, easy to fold. The only thing is, I have allergies to all kinds of things like pollen/hay/certain grasses and I think that this igusa mat triggered them so I woke up with some sniffling and minor allergy symptoms. It could have also been a combination of other springtime allergies causing post nasal drip, I don't want to put the blame solely on this mat. In the end, I decided it's best for me to not sleep with it anymore...so if you're very sensitive or have allergies to a lot of things like me, it might not work for you as a mattress. But it was lovely to fall asleep to at night and the smell was comforting, it would work as a floor mat too. I wish I didn't have allergies. But definitely worth a try and glad I got to experience it at least for a bit :)

I bought this to go on my porch swing along with a Japanese mattress that rolls up. This is great in that I can bring both in before a severe storm in just a few minutes and take up little space. These will last forever and are great to nap on, so comfortable and lightweight!

This is the perfect tatami mat if you've owned an authentic one before. This has the smell and feel that reminds me of rural Japan. If you are buying one and have never owned one before beware of the smell. It smells like fresh cut grass and is nearly impossible to get out. Otherwise it is perfect.

The quality is excellent. I love the non-slip base on the back, and it’s so easy to fold and store in a closet. It’s also incredibly lightweight. The igusa (rush grass) smell is amazing. it reminds me of the house I grew up in back in Japan.

I've slept on it ever since I bought it, at least 2 years ago. Great base for a futon mat and the initial fresh grass smell mellowed out pretty quickly. Quality built it seems like.

I got this as a temporary solution to use while I build my custom camper. Sleeping on the floor but I was surprised at how much of a decent sleep I've been getting. It will become part of my conversion from the traditional western bed. Japanese style is where it's at.

Nice product in theory but the reality is it arrived very damaged. There is poor quality stitching with a 6†slice where the stitches and grass fibers were cut clean through. Unless it's repaired, it’s in danger of ripping open further, and repair would be very difficult if not impossible. This was an international order and quite expensive. When I reported the issue, I was given an odd return label to a different address with no postage paid. Looks like a SCAM.
