NOT airtight but it is a very nice case. (I put gouache in my case when it clearly is called a watercolor pallette. So it on me if I am not 5 star happy because I did not follow directions.) It would be ok for watercolors if you just want an 18 color palette. I put a Holbein gouache set in my palette because I thought it would be good for the paint not to dry out. It all dried up solid as rocks and some colors cracked into little pieces. I can rewet it because it is gouache. The case looks sturdy. It is a nice color. It was delivered in great shape. It has a clear flat tray to use to mix paints on. It is a nice size to carry in a bag, but will wet colors run together inside the palette? I do not know and I am not planning to travel with it. It is not tiny but it is flat. I doubt it is watertight because it is not airtight, but I have not tested that.

I don’t know that this is waterproof, but I haven’t checked. It’s nice and sturdy. I use it for watercolor so I do want the paint to actually dry out. It’s a nice color sits flat on a surface. Not hard to clean. The perfect size for keeping a basic watercolor set. The more you work with it, the less water repellent the mixing areas are You can also use a little bit of high-number sandpaper to help with that. I really like it. I’ve purchased a couple just like this.

I have now purchased three of these over the past year and a half or so. The first one I got had student-grade paints and I gave it to a friend when I upgraded to artist-grade paints. The second one I have been using for well over a year. The third one I bought most recently was to make a second working palette with different colors from my other one, but I'll still be using them both regularly. When researching for my third palette, I desperately wanted a travel palette with removable pans so that making a whole new palette wasn't necessary and I could just switch out the pans whenever I switched colors. However, the very cheapest I could do this was around $70. Price is a factor for be so I settled back on the palette that has treated me incredibly well.To answer some reviews about it not being air-tight because paints eventually dry out, watercolors can mold anyway if they are left wet for more than a week, so everything I have read and learned from other watercolorists recommend that if you're not going to paint right from the tube, let your watercolors dry before close the palette anyway. If your paints are too hard to rewet, try a different brand such as Daniel Smith, Mission Gold, or M. Graham. There are zero problems rewetting most of these paints. I have found - for me - that mine are at least water-tight and I can travel with these palettes to in from classes or meetups with ease without my paints spilling or leakingPros:- Slanted wells are fantastic and easy on your brushes.- Large mixing areas, including a removable clear tray. The area underneath can be used for additional mixing OR to keep a palette swatch of all your paints.- Seals with a rubber seal so that travel is easy and leakproof.- Sturdy construction feels comfortably weighted/substantial without being heavy.- The price is literally unbeatable for what you get. All other plastic palettes that I've used feel too lightweight and/or have harsh corners that are hard on brushes.Cons:- Palette does discolor with staining pigments, but this is true of ALL plastic palettes. If you want a non-staining palette, invest in a porcelain palette.- No option for removable pans, but the slanted wells make up for this.- No finger loop if you like to work that way when outside.I think that's it - well worth the price when compared to other plastic palettes.

This is a solid palette with some fantastic features and few drawbacks. After just a week or two of use I have some comments.I really like the clear, removable mixing area that almost doubles the amount of mixing space available. (Honestly, I rarely use it; but it is nice to have if needed.) The 18 wells provide generous areas for ample paint supply, and the seal - while not completely airtight - is satisfactory. This palette is certainly less likely to leak than many others without any attempt to seal the mixing area and paint wells. The biggest drawback I have is that the mixing area stains very easily. I use some phthalo colors, which are notorious for staining. However, just about any color I use -- staining or not -- will discolor the white tray. (My John Pike palette for the studio resists stains much better than this one.) I don't consider this a huge problem, however, as the palette is affordable enough to purchase another if this does become a hindrance to use.Overall, I would recommend this palette for use. It seems durable, is handy, and provides what I need for my painting.

The palette strikes a good compromise between generous mixing areas and compactness. The 18 wells is a good number and their shape is good for access with your water colour brush. The removable clear mixing tray makes cleaning more convenient.

I like how paint doesn't leak out and how easy it is to clean. I have several other palettes exactly like this one and bought one for my Mom. I was frustrated with my first purchase that didn't arrive. I'm still waiting for my refund. There was a delivery problem. It got lost in the Langley warehouse. I do understand these things take time. June 11, 2023
