The kit comes with easy to follow instructions and truly provides virtually everything you might need to make several dowel joints. Just add a drill and clamps and you're all set. The distance fence is not particularly heavy duty, but it functions just fine and is certainly adequate for most jobs. I have only rudimentary carpentry skills and was able to quickly edge join a couple of excess hickory boards to make a decorative shelf. Total time involved, including reading instructions was about 30 minutes from start to clamping. The centering function is simple and accurate, the depth collars fit and work well enough and the final result looks professionally done. Great value and function for the home handyperson!

I gave it 4 stars for ease of use but really think it is more 3.5. The pros are that it comes with everything you need to get started including the most common dowel sizes. It provides drill bits, collars and the allen wrench to loosen/tighten the collars. It also came with glue. This is everything needed to start. Its also lightweight and comes with a case to keep things organized and neat. It really helped me with alignment of the two joining dowel holes.Some of the cons as a beginner: 1) It should have a vice of sorts to tighten against the object. The drill causes vibrations and you need to coordinate how you hold everything or make sure you clamp it well to something and you clamps also clamp both the objects you intend to join. I use both hands to drill and because of vibrations, it helps me to drill steady and straight and the the dowel jig has a "fence" to place against your object you are drilling on but that's it. 2) The plastic is only ok. I think it could wear over time pretty quickly. I did not have any instructions. I had a precision drill so I had a little experience with dowels using it but it would have been nice to have instructions. YouTube has some videos that were great and helpful. I still had some issues with centering, collar slippage, and there is some slack on the dowel holes for the size of dowels used (not a snug fit). Maybe it is supposed to be looser (not sure).My dowel joinery is getting pretty good and the finished look is great, but it is still tedious. I cannot afford the tools for domino joinery but I am looking at routers next and hope to move up to box or dove joinery jig kits. I don't think I will ever completely move away from dowels so I am still very glad I bought it. I would suggest you look at the steel, clamping Milescraft dowel jig before you decide to buy. I still may buy the steel clamping version.

Used the 1/4 size for a butt-joint and was easy to use. The kit comes with drills for 3 sizes 1/4, 5/16 and 3/8. The kit also comes with a few dowel pins. The drill stops were helpful. Also easy to do a T joint, but I marked the midline marker on the jig with white paint so I could see it easier to line up. Very nice kit.

As a beginner woodworker, Milescrafts doweling jig kit has been great. I was struggling with screwing boards together and sealing the holes. It didn't look great and was a pain on wide or thin boards. This jig easily and quickly aligns dowel holes for a perfect fit that looks great.My one complaint is that the case isn't designed to store the drill bits with the depth stops attached.Otherwise, my personal lesson learned was setting my board orientation correctly when drilling holes. Since the jig doesn't require precise hole placement, it's easy to have the wrong board faces match up to the drilled holes.Well worth the money!

I build and repair furniture as a side business. I have been through multiple dowel jigs (both ones I made and kits). This Milescraft kit is as good as my Kreg Dowel Jig Kit. I would even say easier to use. I needed something for quick dowel alignment, this does it perfect.Worth the cost , just hope it holds up. Most kits I find last a year of heavy use.One comment...a few more pins in the case would be nice addition. But highly recommend the kit

Not a problem grade tool but works great for me learning the roped of beginner woodworking. Great set great price. Don't buy the more expensive model!

I love this so much!!!! Ditched the first jig that I bought. As a newbie, this one is so easy to use and very accurate.

Concept is great, and all the videos show it performing flawlessly. I, however, could never get the handle to stay in place so the drilled holes were in a predictable, and repeatably, place. Out of 15 attempts, 1 aligned properly, 4 (edge attempts) chewed the wood to uselessness, and the remaining were "random" screw ups. I'm sure it's a matter of practice, but I screwed up 15 boards trying to do it once, and after the 15th attempt I couldn't determine what I was doing incorrectly, so I had no idea what to correct ... and gave up.
