I finish acoustic guitars with Enduro-Var water based varnish. The last 2 steps in my abrasive sequence are Abralon 2000 and 4000 grits (followed by buffing with Menzerna compounds.) The Abralon 2000 pad starts to produce a sheen on the varnished surface, then the 4000 produces a fairly glossy finish, ready for buffing. My last 2000 grit pad is wearing out, so I just tried two other 2000 grit abrasive products. Both of them gave me a dull surface. Moving up to the Abralon 4000 pad did not give the same level of gloss as when I used the Abralon 2000 first. Conclusion: use Abralon for the final couple of steps if you want a fast, high quality gloss finish. They are expensive, but remarkably long lasting. I'm ordering more now!

These are the best for finish sanding.Unfortunately, they arrived damaged thru shipping. They should come in a box
