I purchased a 400.00 Opti only to learn it was defective after getting the car back together. This Opti is so much better! The quality was like night and day difference. Don’t cheap out! If you do, it’ll cost you in a replacement. Luckily mine fell within the return time. If you have a 92 vette, you will need the adapter harness part number 100-00621

I'm not sure if I'm more annoyed at this product, MSD, or myself for defending MSD's Product for months... I'm leaving my praising review below... My other MSD Opti lasted 7 years. I replaced it with another MSD Opti. The new one seemed to work, but oddly enough set codes again, but now did some cool surging and stalling occasionally. I sent the opti back to MSD for warrantee work. It sat there for weeks due to a parts shortage. Got a rebuilt one back, with the rebuilder telling me there was nothing wrong with my original, except the lens was coated with oil, from possible blow-by... I disagreed with the diagnosis, but installed the replacement unit they shipped, watching for blow-by... The new unit no longer set Opti codes, but the surging and stalling remained.I foolishly defended the new opti thinking "MSD wouldn't send me another clunker... It's MSD... I trust them...", and changed pretty much every sensor on the car, and even sent the ECM out for a rebuild. When the car was acting up, it was causing computer communications problemsI was finally convinced to replace the Opti again. Unfortunately/Fortunately, the MSD unit was out of warrantee. At this point I was not plunking down another $500 for one, when we were suspecting this to be the problem again.I decided to try one of the cheaper OptiSpark units. I got this one, as the reviews were pretty honest. "Gave it a try, worked great!"https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006CUNAK4/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1Do not buy this one, go get a different one. The $80 one works great on my Vette.----------- Original REVIEW ----My last MSD Opti lasted 7 years. When I went shopping for this replacement, I found that AC Delco was no longer selling new units. So that left me with few choices. With all the work it takes to pull the front of an LT1 apart to change it, I had little interest in risking a rebuild (even from AC Delco) or a no-name unit. The MSD unit was an improvement over stock, with theoretical improvements above that since then. Did the MSD 8.5 wires and Bosch plugs too. I think this is the 4th Opti on the car since new... Worst ignition system ever, but I figure this unit makes it a little better than stock. And it is vented.

I would'nt purchase any other aftermarket product for this model of distributor but MSD. dont cut corners buying any other opti its either stock brand of MSD, benifit over stockt is its heavy duty, & for earlier models this has the vented upgrade to protect against harmful gases that build up inside which lead to failure. I had mine on for 2yrs now no issues. i recommend.

I have had this ignition installed now in my 1993 Corvette for 3 months now. Engine runs smooth and performs well. I am hoping that with the addition of a vent to help remove moisture from inside the distributor unlike the original models, will help prolong the life of this product as the installation procedure is very difficult for a driveway mechanic as myself.

Installed this in my 94 Pontiac Trans AM GT, Worked Fantastic, Got rid of my issues and my 2 weeks of trying to solve my issues. Then coming back home from a 3 hour drive a year after install, system does same issue, tried again replace plugs thinking its a fouled plug, nope, it was again the Opti. i though this was ment to fix the issue of stock problems. Well, It was just a month or so out of warranty with now help from MSD Performance Corp.

DO not buy this product! I installed this P-O-S in my corvette and it didnt last a thousand miles.I am pissed! Not only do i have to tear my motor back down, and have to again buy gaskets etc.,I have to waist my time trying to get these crooks to send me a replacement. I would like to get my money back, but of coarse that isn't an option.Do yourself a favor and purchase a AC/DELCO..or ,really you could purchase a cheap $75 no name opti. and get better results............

As always with Amazon quality products at great prices. Comparing the MSD dist. with the GM Delco product I took out (2nd one 75k miles total) it becomes obvious that MSD went the extra mile designing and building a much better product. The dist. went in easy and the fit was good. Too bad GM couldn't have put it in a more accessible location (idiots), Corvette runs great now. Thanks guys.
