I know there are different views on the importance of a conductors baton, but I believe that the quality of the baton is crucial for college classes. There's lots of improper technique one could learn if they only expose themselves with heavy batons. This baton is one of those "heavy batons". The length is about 15.5 inches (counting the handle). I would say that this baton is a lot sturdier in built than some Maller Batons I have tried. And it also helps that there's a sturdy red case to make it very portable. Fits right in my bag.I love the handle color since it is green and very comfortable to grip. I tend to have chubby fingers and the handle accommodates them fairly well.I bought this baton as an "emergency baton" to my other more expensive baton. In my experience, $30-40+ Batons tend to weight lighter and hold better balance. That quality alone makes "releases" and other music cues, easier to execute. There's more room for expressiveness and you won't be subtly fighting against gravity to execute a clean count, if you were to buy a more custom made baton fit to your needs as a conductor.Overall, this baton is good for practicing and having in reach. If you lose it, it's very replaceable, affordable, and portable.

Overall, it works well. The only downside is the balance point is off a bit on each one. Thankfully, it's simple to cut 1/4 or 1/2 inch from the tip, which is the same color throughout - so once you polish it up again (it appears to be fiberglass, so do be careful) you can't tell it was modified. To do this, get a razor blade and roll the shaft on it very gently for a good 30 seconds until it makes a perfect crease around the outside, similar to a pipe cutter. It should snap off easily and piece of sandpaper should finish the job ( note that is IS fiberglass, so wear gloves and clean up properly/don't make dust/etc )Obviously if it's handle - heavy, you can sand down the plastic a bit in one area. It appears to be Bakelite, and easy to work with. Once balanced, it's as good as any $50 baton.

I needed a baton for my Basic Conducting class, and none of my local music stores had any in stock. Amazon got it to me in three days, just in time for my first day of class. It’s pretty nice, and hasn’t broken in over a year. Pretty good for a basic conductor’s baton!

Very nice for my Concert Band Student. It is in a little bit long, but it works fine. I did not make any adjustments to it. It has a great feel and is in fact very sturdy and lightweight. Perfectly priced and even came with a protective case

Better than buying the $100 stick they want you to!

This could be the magic wand you've been looking for at a great price. Excellent construction, sturdy, not warped, length is just right. I'm a retired band and orchestra conductor and have a $65 baton that compares to this very modestly-priced find very favorably! I gave one to my successor at the high school and she claims it's magic: the kids respond so well. If you're teaching conducting, get this for your students. Use it every day with your band or orchestra...

The baton case is great but the actual baton is too long (not standard length).
