This crucible arrived in good condition and was immediately used for melting glass. No cracks or excessive corrosion appeared after the first use.

This is the first graphite crucible I have ordered, and I intend to cast some scrap aluminum. The instructions have some good info on using the crucible the first time to drive any moisture out. The instructions also have good tips on cleaning the crucial. When I opened the packaging I notice a two chips, on opposite sides of the rim. I am not sure it these will lead to any issues or not. There were no chips in the foam package, so the chips must have been part of the manufacturing/packaging process.I really like the size of the crucible. I am going to be melting scrap aluminum and it's good to be able to get a lot of metal melted before I pour.I noticed the seller has a rotating crucible stand/tongs which looks like a great idea, easier and safer that tongs alone.I also noticed the seller's info about "Our graphite crucibles are consumables." I am not sure how much use the crucible will provide before needing to be retired. The crucial is heavy, and with the exception of the cracks on the rim it seems to be very well made. I really like the large size and plan to start melting scrap soon.I'll update my review as soon as I get the first pour completed.

Well crafted, lighter weight crucible. Arrives nicely packaged and easily stored in its case for bulk use. I almost want to have fun with a gigantic cylindrical pencil, but I would rather use this to melt down my lower temp scrap for additives to some other work. As fun as that seems, my wife wants this for casting silver work. In the end, I am probably going to get several of these each for both applications and a few bags of casting sand.Heats up a bit faster than what I was using before and with a lot less scaling that needed to be removed. A professional shop should get a bunch of these. So much easier than some of the other bulks that I have used

I ordered this item thinking it was a #8 crucible - because the description and title both stated this was a #8 crucible... However, what we received was a #6 crucible. It was stamped on the box that it came in as a #6 and comparing it side-by-side with a #8 crucible that we already owned (but needed to replace) showed that this new crucible was indeed smaller. This crucible also developed a hole in it's side after the second use.Unfortunately we needed a crucible right away, so we had to keep this one becausewe didn'thave time to return and replace it, but we will not be buying another one of these because or the errors in size, description and durability.
