I got these for a very specific purpose: having a hook to corral small purses, bags and backpacks when traveling, particularly for use on hotel bellhop carts and closet rods. My family does several costume-heavy events each year (anime and steampunk conventions, Renn Faires, and EGL/J-fashion) that require us to have numerous small bags of items--everything from snacks we just purchased before arriving at the hotel to specialty hats, makeup and computer bags to my kids' backpacks. We've tried using bungee cords to hang extra items (beyond the garment bags which we also have many of on these outings), but bungees stretch and wobble, and are just not very effective for this use. Welcome this giant carbiner! It fits over garment rack bars and the locking gate keeps bags and straps from escaping. Weight load bearing has not seemed to be an issue for what we use it for.

I bought these size 8 S-biners to haul my trash can to the pickup location using my SUV. They worked great but one of the stainless steel gate clips came off. I found it, and to keep it from happening again I took some UV resistent zip ties and placed them around the clip to keep it from spreading. Make sure to not only wrap the tie around the gate clip, but pass it through as well so it will not slide off the end.
