I bought a used lathe to find the head stock spindle was out of alignment, so I bought these reamers in hopes of correcting it. I am no machinist, but I figured I could attach it to the tail stock and run the reamer through the head stock and see if it would center and align it. You can see in the picture how I set it up. I ran the lathe at the lowest speed, about 40-50 rpm, and eased the Coarse cut reamer in and then the finish reamer. To my surprise, it worked like a charm, the M2 taper fits all my attachments snugly and it is centered and wobble free! The final finish looks a lot rougher in the photo than it really looks like and it feels smooth too. I believe if I continued with the finish reamer, by hand maybe, it would have cleaned up even more but once I obtained the fit and centering I was looking for so I stopped, I have been known to fix things until I break them. So, for anyone looking for an affordable way to cleanup and align the tapers on a budget or older machine, I don’t think you can go wrong with buying a set of these.

The MT2 reamers arrived on time and in good condition. However I gave the four stars because the finish looked rusted and tarnished. They worked perfectly and that is the important thing. I will be ordering MT3 reamers sometime soon. I'll see how they are finished.

Good set of #2 Morse taper cleaner and reamer to clean gunk from a #2 Morse taper fitted lathe.

I can't read the package, but I think it says, "Very rusty.". The cutting edges look ok and hopefully it will work fine. The usual slathering of oil is all dry. So this has either had a lot of heat, been completely submerged, or is very old.

I had a small burr inside my MT that was affecting all my accessories. A few turns with this reamer made it all go away! Easy Peasy!

Not sure what happened to the tail stock spindle taper in my lathe but it developed a side to side wobble on any MT2 tool inserted.Decided I'd try this before trying to source a new one. Probably 6 full turns of the finishing reamer driven with a wrench and light pressure cleaned the taper up well. The reamer left a nice shiny finish, and now MT2 tools seat very well with no rocking or wobble.Haven't tried using the roughing reamer. The cutting surfaces are nice and clean, the other surfaces are red with rust as pictured but doesn't impact the functionality. The packaging is a small cardboard box and zip lock bag, seems sufficient to protect in transit. The reamers were wrapped in VOC paper but didn't seem to have been oiled before wrapping.

I'm not impressed with the rust on the non cutting surfaces, but the tool did do the promised job in restoring the MT2 taper on my lathe tailstock.If that's all you need, once in a while, the tools are fine. If your livelihood regularly depends upon such, these are not the tools for you.
