Good quality, great functionality and fits like a charm. I’ve had a Nova chuck for years and years and these jaws fit like the first set I ever bought.

Before I ordered this I was putting the pen blanks in the chuck jaws and manually centering them on the drill bit, but with the pen blank jaws the blanks are already centered and the longer jaws hold the blanks securely the entire length. Very easy to use.

I’ve been turning pens for over 10 years now and have been drilling the holes and trimming the blanks with my drill press. The problem I was having was that I was rarely able to get the hole in the blank centered all the way through. When I got the Pen Plus Jaws, I just removed the #1 and # 3 jaw on my Nova Midi Chuck and attached the pen jaws in their place with two screws each jaw. There are no screws that come with the Pen Jaws so you need to use the current screws that are on your Nova Chuck. I put the Chuck on my lathe and inserted a piece of 3/4 inch purple heart I was using for a pen and proceeded to drill a 27/64 hole in the blank. It worked great and the hole was centered all the way through the blank. I did slow down the drilling process as I was coming to the end to minimize blowout and did not notice anything out of the ordinary. I would definitely recommend the Pen Plus Jaws to any pen turner who already has a Nova Chuck for the quality and ease for the good results and more economical cost when compared to purchasing a brand new pen turning chuck. I wish I had done this years ago.

These work great drilling holes in pen blanks on the lathe. I’ve only used them with acrylic blanks. The drilled holes were much better compared to using a drill press.

These jaws really do a great job drilling pen blanks. I've been using Nova chucks for a number of years now and I have a small collection of jaws. When this jaw set first came out I thought it would be nice to have but I really didn't have a need at the time. When the need arose I was still hesitant as I knew I could use the drill press to drill my pen blanks. I decided to order these jaws anyway based on a few initial positive comments I read.I don't turn many pens as I prefer turning so many other things but when my son asked me to make some pens I thought this would be a good opportunity to try these jaws. I am VERY glad I did. These jaws are fantastic. The holes I drilled in the pen blanks are straight and centered on the blank much better than if I had done them on the drill press. I also used these jaws with a forstner bit to square up the ends of the wood before turning and again everything worked out great. I don't have a barrel trimmer but I would think these jaws would work well with one if the lathe is properly aligned.I've looked at a number of pen blank jaws and these are the best I've seen so far. Two screws hold each jaw firmly to the chuck so there is no chance of the top of the jaws being pushed apart with the stock in place. The jaws hold the stock firmly top to bottom with plenty of contact area so there is no damage to the stock. If you're a pen turner or have a need to hold small square stock, especially for drilling applications, I highly recommend this jaw set.A few notes before using these jaws:1) Be sure your lathe head stock and tail stock are properly aligned so you don't end up with enlarged holes.2) Before using these (and all jaws in my opinion) take a few minutes to round over the sharp corners a bit just in case your fingers get too close when the jaws are spinning. A few minutes with a file, sandpaper, etc. could literally save your skin.3) Always be careful.Have fun turning.

It works well with the other Nova parts that I have. I started drilling using the lathe, and it works great.

I find it better than a drill press for pen blanks.
