When you install a new aftermarket radio,there may be a gap on the side which this kit filled perfectly. It functions as intended by filling in the gaps of a smaller receiver when placed behind where the radio sits behind the bezel. Not really necessary for the 10.1 inch receivers because those usually cover the dash area where a gap may be present. Good purchase for my 2006 scion xb
