These work as good alternatives for older and vintage cymbal stands that don't have very much threading exposed at the top. If you have to shorten a regular cymbal sleeve because of the lack of threading, these thin foam pads work very well for that. It's hard to find thin felts and these fit the bill. Also, if you don't like the regular or thick Cympads because they restrict the movement of your cymbal to much (like me) then you will find these feel more like a felt than a thick foam pad.

Felt is also non uniform, these are uniform.By loosening and tightening the cymbal tension wing nut, you can change the gripand tonality of your drum kit cymbals. Maybe not as durable as felt, but inexpensiveenough to replace, which so far I have never needed.
