The lush foliage and profuse blooming make this a rewarding plant to grow!

Thunbergia (Thunbergia Alata Sunrise Yellow)

Grow Thunbergia seeds for this incredible climber! Commonly called Black-Eyed Susan vine, this tender perennial is evergreen in zones 10 and warmer. Where it is grown as a perennial, it can reach heights of 20 feet. In cooler areas where there are winter frosts, grow yellow Thunbergia vine as an annual, sowing the Thunbergia seeds each spring. This vine brightly displays 1 1/2 inch flowers in shades of yellow. The simple blooms have 5 petals and surround a brownish purple center.

Care for your Thunbergia Includes: Providing moist, well-drained soil in full sun with some afternoon shade. This plant needs regular watering throughout the summer. Plant seedlings 3 inches away from supports, both netting and strings make good trellis material. Solid fencing or large posts will need trellis material for the vine to climb. Pinch the tips of young Black-Eyed Susan plants to encourage branching.

If grown in a container, yellow Thunbergia can be wintered indoors in a bright, sunny window.

Planted these in a single planter, before translating in my beds, but not a single flower sprouted after 8 weeks.

Only about 1/3 of the seeds germinated. I didn't expect them all to so I am still very happy. I have had these flowers in my front yard for years. This last Winter they took a hard hit. I am hopeful that the ones that I plant this year will just be just as Hardy as the ones before.

I did not soak the seeds, just planted them in containers using potting soil. They have now all been transplanted along my fence and I'm looking forward to them climbing and when they do I will add more pictures. For now just 2 from transplanting 2 days ago.UPDATE Aug 31 2017 I posted a picture of the growth since planting and they have filled in nicely and are starting to climb. I live in Marin County California and I think I have the perfect conditions for these vines to do well

Usually this plant is pretty easy to grow, BUT not one of these germinated this time. I gave a 3 because I also ordered the orange variety from this same company and virtually all of them germinated well and are growing like gangbusters. Not sure what the deal was with these yellow ones.

Even with using fertilizer, they did not have the density of flowers as shown on the picture. Next year I will try a vine with a bigger flower!
