It is one of the easiest ground covers to establish from seed, growing quickly to fill in bare spots and create a dense, green mat in a short amount of time. Enjoy a pristine, well-manicured lawn without the constant upkeep, ideal for busy gardeners looking for fast-growing solutions.
  • ADAPTABLE GROWTH FOR YEAR-ROUND COLOR: Ideal for USDA Zones 8-11, Outsidepride Dichondra seed thrives in warm climates and maintains its vibrant green color year-round. Even in winter temperatures as low as 20°F, this partial to full shade ground cover seed experiences only slight leaf browning, ensuring your garden remains green and attractive throughout the year.
  • IDEAL FOR SHADY AREAS & SOFT UNDERFOOT: This Dichondra ground cover seeds excels in low-light conditions where traditional grass often fails. Its ability to grow well in both sun and shade makes it perfect for achieving a uniform, green landscape in challenging areas. The broad, circular leaves create a thick, dense carpet that is soft and pleasant to walk on, enhancing the overall garden experience. This kidney groundcover seeds is similar in feel and function to miniclover.
  • EROSION CONTROL & CONTAINER PLANTING: With its prostrate growth habit and strong root system, Dichondra repens is highly effective in preventing soil erosion. Dichondra, commonly called Kidney Weed, Dichondra Pony Foot, or Lawn Leaf, is an excellent choice for container planting, providing a lush, green spillover effect in pots and hanging baskets. It's as versatile and attractive as other container plant seeds like creeping jenny seeds and moneywort seeds.

Creeping Growth Habit

Soft, Dense and Beautiful Ground Cover

Dichondra seeds are covered with a specialized clay coating designed to enhance their performance. This coating makes the seeds easier to spread uniformly over the planting area, ensuring better coverage. This perennial plant requires minimal mowing, making it an ideal low-maintenance solution. Most dichondra plants are heat and drought-tolerant. It also recovers quickly even if wilted, and looks fresh all season long.

Vigorous and easy to grow, this Dichondra boasts thick, super-soft leaves which are about 3/4 - 1 inch leaves in width. The foliage is thick-arrayed on very well-branched plants that need no pinching. This 2-inch tall Dichondra will cascade about 3 feet from your baskets, windowboxes, or other containers, but it will also form a nicely domed shape that fills the available space beautifully!

Dichondra ground cover seed needs warm soil before it can sprout. The best time to seed dichondra is when temperatures are in the 70's range and night time temps are in the 50's range. The first leaves will be long and narrow and will not look like dichondra in the beginning. This is usually mid to late spring or late summer to early fall. When soil temperatures are too low, seed sprouting and establishment will take much longer or may not occur at all. Use 1 lb of seed per 500 square feet, lightly raking them to cover with no more than 1/8 inch of soil for optimal germination. Water moderately to avoid waterlogging, which can harm the seeds. You can fertilize it monthly with 1/2 - 1 lb of nitrogen. Dichondra does not require regular mowing but can be trimmed to maintain the desired height if necessary.

I got this to use in my backyard in the Phoenix area, Gilbert specifically. My back yard sloped towards the house so I leveled and sloped it towards the wall and in the process removed all the Bermuda grass that was back there. I personally hate bermuda grass. Its itchy, doesnt look good, grows like a weed and you cant walk on it without bringing some of it inside. I decided to try Dichondra because I had seen some mixed in with peoples bermuda. I laid this seed and it germinated fairly quickly. (5-7 days) I planted it in April of 2014. It grew pretty well but most of it died back in the summer and only a few spots survived. I thought it would recover during the winter, but it does not grow very fast in the winter so I reseeded it again in March. The whole back yard was full by the end of April. It was doing great until the middle of June. I didn't water it as much as i should have. Now i am watering for an hour every two days with the sprinklers or simply turning on the hose and soaking the back yard. I have found it likes deep water feedings and it is no longer dying but really isn't growing back very well due to the 115 degree weather. I don't think that the roots were deep enough by the time the heat started. I have seen other yards that do fine in the summer and i think its because they are more established. I should have seeded in September and let the roots get really deep with deep infrequent waterings so that when summer came around it would do better. The Pro's:-I have only mowed it once. After that i kind of stayed the height that i mowed it to. In the winter i only need to water for 20 minutes 1 time a week. Sometimes less if its rainy.-Its cool to the touch and not itchy and I don't have to worry about bringing in pieces of it with me when I walk back into the house. My 16 month old loves to walk and run around on it.-It lasts all year compared to Bermuda which dies in the winter and you have to overseed if you want grass in the winter.-Its very lush and a deep green most of the year.Cons--Leaves are bigger and grow higher in the shade. Mow them before they get too tall or else they will die back if you take too much off. Once mowed they kind of get trained to that height though. In full sun they grow low to the ground and smaller leaves.-Doesn't take a ton of traffic very well. My toddler has yet to damage it, but I laid some pavers and the walking back and forth definitely did some damage.- Requires regular long waterings in the summer.Overall i love it and after this summer it should really grab hold and look good all year.

Received the Dichondra seeds as scheduled. Packaging and seed quality look excellent. Prepared the pictured bed by mixing potting soil into my existing soil (which was quite packed and poor quality soil.) This was a considerable effort and by far the hardest part of the job. I then used liquid fertilizer and lightly applied.I then spread the seeds (along with some native wildflower seeds) according to the spread rate on the packaging (about 1/2 pound for this area). I like that the seed coating is blue in color, which helps in spreading them evenly. Finally, I came over the top with some basic top soil and lightly fertilized again and have watered each evening. This picture is on the 7th day after planting, and while you can't tell from the first picture, I already have some sprouts!I will take pictures every 7-10 days and post them, along with any other details.Planted April 13th, Houston, TX. Daytime highs have been upper 70s/low 80s with nighttime temps in the 60s. No rail has fallen since planting.UPDATE 2nd picture is 14 days. We had a heavy rain (3plus inches) on the 9th day after planting. I was worried about damage to the young sprouts, so I covered the area with plastic bags. Growth coverage is pretty solid (remembering I co-planted some wildflower seeds at the same time). The shadier areas are growing a few days behind the sunnier ones, but that is to be expected. Expecting some more heavy rain in the next 48 hours, but will not cover this time. Will post again next week!UPDATE 2: 21 days and the difference is clear! You can see everything coming in nicely- the Dichondra and the wildflowers (the taller of the shoots). Coverage is continuing to improve. We have had record rains over the last week- over 7 inches. I did not cover the sprouts this time- though it should be noted the oak tree that covers this are does provide some protection from driving rain. VERY pleased so far! Will post again next week...

I did send 2 emails for tech support, they state will reply in 2 hours. No reply after 10 days. That sucks, no phone support or email response.I planted seed on 5-11-19, 5 days later, seed germinated. That's is as far as it has gone. After 20 more days later, it is not growing much. See photos. My yard was tilled, sifted out any debri to 6 inche depth, all clean dirt, plus added top soil. It was well watered to over 6 inches deep prior to sending. I spread seeding then racked. I watered 3 times a day for 1 to 2 min just to keep seed moist. I tested soil for moisture, PH and light, all looks ok per photos.I dont think this seed likes Sun light, I only have a few that grew, not only that, what has grown is not the same as advertised. No weeds are coming up, or growing. see photos. The Dichondra I planted in the 80's, it was a 3 leaf clover, it grew fast and did very well in PHX. Going to try and find the 3 leaf again.I live in Kingman, Az, 3500 elevation. Been in the low 70's and 50's night. Not sure if this product is Garaunteed, but, I have done everything correctly, I can think of.The seed has grown to a certain level, but stopped growing. Does not look like Dichondra advertised. If I cannot talk to technical support, my only answer is Amazon. I still have 1/2 bag left, 1 lbout of 2#.I will call them to see what gauarantee I have. Want a refund to purchase another type of clover. It gets tiring when you buy products on line, than they don't work.Buyer beware, of what you purchase. Seller can give you all kinds of excuses, today what you did wrong. No trust left in this country no more.
