OXO is an excellent brand of housewares and tools - most of our kitchen utensils are OXO. OXO offers higher quality tools than their competitors; they are all dishwasher safe and long lasting. This cherry pitter made pitting cherries very simple and the clean up was easy. I can't imagine that it will ever need replacing but I would buy this brand again if it ever does!

I used to have an all-aluminum cherry/olive pitter of similar design that I used for years. It worked fine, although it could be finicky. After it broke, I used a plastic one with a push-button. I did not much care for it, since it was even more finicky than the aluminum one. I even tried a 6-at-a-time pitter, but I didn't love that one either. That's when I tried this one. This is by far the best one I have ever used. I no longer have to worry about putting the cherry in in exactly the right position. Its funnel design does that for me, so that the pit cleanly pops out nearly every time (I haven't yet tried it on olives). Is it sturdy? It feel sturdy, but ask me again in a few years. My one (very mild) criticism is that the little tab that holds it partially closed moves into place on its own while I'm using it, so I have to keep pushing it back in. Not a big deal, in context, for something that otherwise works this well.

This was one of those items I thought was silly to buy until we started eating a lot of cherries and finding that spitting out the pits was annoying and mess. I went with this particular one because I like the brand, the price was good, and reviews overall were good.It works great, it is very easy to use. If you're pitting a ton of cherries, like for a big batch of desserts or something, your hand will get tired. But for one or two servings to eat it is fine. Cherries that aren't completely ripe will take more effort to pit than nice ripe ones.I read some reviews that mentioned that it's messy when the pit shoots out, juice flies out. This is true, no matter how gentle you are. My husband had a great suggestion, instead of using a bowl for the pits to fall into, use a tall cup. Position the pitter over that, then cover the top of it with your other hand as you press, and little to no juice spits out onto your work surface. The first time I used it I had drops of cherry juice all over my counter! But once you figure it out, there's minimal mess.It will occasionally miss a pit. It'll look like it came out, but it's still in there. Be careful of that.I like that the pitter piece is metal, seems like it'll last a lot longer than something that is plastic. The rest is plastic, which is fine and feels sturdy. The little clear plastic piece that the pit falls through can be removed easily for cleaning. That little piece does help with the juice making a mess, but not enough.I really like this little kitchen trinket. If you eat cherries with any regularity, I recommend getting one. I can pit them in the morning for lunch and not have to worry about spitting the pits out when it's time to eat them.

I was stunned at how well this works. the pit shot out of the cherry like it was greased! be sure to aim it down into a sink or bowl. the days of cutting the cherry pit out with a knife are over.

This works fine on small to medium cherries, but larger cherries don't fit in the space, even sideways. I've mangled several large cherries, trying to stuff them in. Also, the little clear plastic part is pointless. After it falling off several times I just took it off and recycled it. It's better than nothing, but can't recommend it. Pretty disappointed, I usually love Oxo products.

Ottimo.
