This drive does not include any player software. If you are not replacing an existing Blu-Ray drive you may also need to purchase player software, but your graphics adapter and screen must also support Blu-Ray or Blu-Ray 3D video playback. As a general rule, graphics cards featuring DisplayPort, DVI-D and/or HDMI video outputs are commonly Blu-Ray compatible. Many laptop screens may be compatible to support playback. Check with the system manufacturer for Blu-Ray compatibility before purchasing this drive.If replacing a DVD drive, note that some versions of CyberLink PowerDVD that come pre-installed on many name brand computers may already support Blu-Ray playback on systems that meet HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) requirements. My system was equipped with PowerDVD 9.5 OEM/Standard Edition. DRM (Digital Rights Management) specifies that Blu-Ray media can only be played through HDCP compliant hardware. This means you cannot play disks on composite, or VGA displays.I installed this drive into a desktop computer using a and I also used a to accommodate the drive into the 5.25 inch bay, along with a hard drive. These laptop drives were a little more expensive than the larger desktop drives, but slimline drives utilize less power than typical 5.25 inch optical disk drives & 3.5 inch hard drives found in most desktop systems. I needed the extra power to support a better graphics card that otherwise required a 300 watt power supply. The maximum power supply my system supports only has 280 watts max output. I am using this system as a Media player in my Entertainment Room and it works great. Now it serves as a MP3 jukebox for parties, a Blu-Ray and Netflix movie theater for relaxing, and a large screen video game system.

This drive (while a few millimeters thicker than modern drives) fits the description well. Using it along with some DVD/Blueray reading software to watch movies on my laptop. I did end up ordering a external drive enclosure, since this rather dated drive did not fit in my laptop's hot-swappable drive bay.

The bd-rom drive in my notebook wasn't "seeing" every disk. This burner does, and it was easy to install. Enough said

The drive installed very easily in windows 7 64 bit, and now running well watched blu ray and recorded dvd and cd without a hitch. I would recommend this product!
