The Pentax K1000 35mm SLR is one of photography's greatest, most popular and longest-lived cameras. This Pentax film camera is completely mechanical and needs no battery to run, however, you must purchase an A76 cell battery to run the light meter. Unlike other SLR and DSLR cameras, the K1000 is simple and has little to no learning curve. There is three shooting controls: aperture, shutter speed and focus. You set the film speed when you load it. An extraordinary simple camera that forces you to think about your picture instead of your camera. As a result, it's recommended by most photography teachers, instructors, and professors to be used in their classes. The Pentax K1000 is so brilliant that you never need to turn the meter or camera on or off: both are always on for instant picture taking!

I purchased this Pentax K100 for nearly $300 in what was titled “Refurbished - Excellent” so in my mind I was practically buying a new if not nearly new camera. Although for the most part the camera seems to work (I haven’t gotten a chance to see how the photos come out), it is definitely not in “Excellent” condition.- The 50mm lens it comes with has a slight bend on the edge. Nothing that may impact the quality of the photos but still not “Excellent” condition- There’s a dent in the bottom of the camera itself. It’s pretty noticeable and a bit concerning since it may be the reason to some underlying issues- The viewfinder has specks of dust in it. I’m not taking about dust in the mirror that I can wipe off with a cloth but dust IN the viewfinder. Definitely distracting when taking a picture- Lastly, it seems like the light meter does not work. I put in a brand new battery so I know it’s not a battery issue. When I go outside and have my camera set to the proper “Sunny 16” method, the light meter displays that the photo is currently under exposed. I used a light meter app on my phone to help my find the correct lighting and when I set my camera to those recommended settings, the light meter on the Pentax still says I’m underexposed. It makes the whole process confusing because I don’t want to risk takand under / over exposed photo. With that being said, I will get my first roll developed and most likely return the camera. If I am paying $300 for this camera and it is advertised as “Refurbished Excellent”, I expect 0 flaws. I wouldn’t mind purchasing the camera again as it wasn’t in completely terrible condition. I’m just afraid of buying a camera in “Excellent” condition and it’s even worse than the one I currently have
