These are high-quality pencil leads. I purchased the 2B one because I prefer writing with darker pencils leads, and most of the mechanical pencils in the U.S. come with HB lead.These leads are NOT colored, despite their colored containers. They are all grey color. What’s different is their degree of hardness, although the difference is minimal:- HB (blue container) is the hardest and lightest. It is your typical “#2 pencil†lead.- B (red container) is in between HB and 2B.- 2B (orange container) is the softest, smoothest, and darkest out of the 3 leads.

Since it's so strong, I can use additional force to write very dark lines without worrying about breaking, and the results look very good. I want to try Ain Stein 0.5mm 4B next.

I think it’s a touch on the hard side. Ain Stein 2B is a touch harder than Pilot Neox B. And there’s not that much of a distinction from Hi Polymer. For .5 lead it is durable and smooth, but I wouldn’t buy it again

I prefer a softer lead for writing in pencil. HB is a little too hard, and for several years I have been using 2b lead instead of the HB standard lead. This lead is very smooth for writing and sketching, but does not crack or crumble as other version have. I go out of my way now to order this lead only.
