I bought this PID controller because the price was less than the other brand. It worked good as received. If you need to change ant parameters other than the temp set point then there will be a learning curve. I could not find a Youtube video of this specific model. The instruction sheet is very complicated and printed very tiny. You will need magnification. Very good value in my opinion. You can buy another thermocouple if you need a higher temperature.

I'm a nerd. No argument. I bought a plain-jane electric box smoker as cheaply as possible to try my hand at smoking meat for thanksgiving. 100$ in and I'm annoyed that I can't hold temps solidly where I want them. I wanted 225F and ended up wandering from 160F to 200F. I'm going to science the hell out of it. This kit, a couple silicone hole cover grommets, some high heat RTV silicone sealant and I'm going to turn my 100$ smoker into a 150$ smoker that operates like a 600$ smoker. Stay tuned for to video and transcripts.

Only 4 stars because there are no mounting brackets included in either of the 2 units that I purchased. No response from seller. Every other PID seller on Amazon has one of three types of brackets (See Pic). I also cannot find any brackets for sale on Amazon, eBay or anywhere else on the interwebs. The instructions are extremely detailed but some of the terminology is not explained (such as Class Authority). Definitely not for the beginner. I built mine into an old Dell power supply box. (Class Authority by the way, is a user/admin option to make changes to some of the lesser used settings or do a factory reset).

Pretty cool device for a fairly cheap price. The datasheet/options that it comes with is huge. As some have said, you do need to show a little ingenuity. Note that to get to a lot of the settings, you have to set the "class authority" menu to a higher number. But this thing delivers. You have full control of PID values, or you can set to autoPID. I am using it and a 200w PTC /w fan to heat my X1c printer enclosure.

I got 5 of this controller to precisely manage my machine temperature. I’m an engineer so I took classes on electrical and control theory. The info sheet (they are not instructions) says I can change the controller time constant but the actual hardware menu skips the input like it is not allowed on this model. So I am stuck with a junk slow controller that doesn’t do what the Amazon describes or what the directions say can be done. My guess is those features are only in the higher priced versions. I would have paid for them if this had not lied about what it can do. Very disappointing.

Using this for control on a kiln (primarily for the annealing temperature hold). The thermocouple that comes with this kit is rated for 1900F so I used my own t/c. As with most controllers, it's programmable for a lot of options. Happily it comes default for degrees F and K-type t/c, so it was ready for my use right out of the box without having to wade through the (usually) confusing steps of changing parameters.. Adjusting the setpoint temperature is easy, the display bright. The SSR runs barely warm at 15A current. Use the packet of thermal compound (included) and spread it evenly on the surface(s) before mating the SSR to the heatsink. I did a little deburring and light polishing on both SSR and heatsink to make sure everything was flat to ensure good thermal contact.

While I’m sure this works great for people with electrical experience, the directions are not clear for someone without that knowledge. They essentially say you should already know. I would call them less instructions and more of an information packet with the product description. Wasn’t what I needed.

When something is rated at 30 amps, that is the maximum it can occasionally hit. The load should be around 20 amps.
