I'm using this rosin on medium-gauge Eudoxas. Living in an area where air conditioning is used in the summer, I had never gotten into the light vs. dark rosin debate until I switched for the first time to Eudoxa strings, my first experience with gut. Some people have complained that Eudoxas tend to 'twist under the bow,' which I also observed while using the dark rosin I had in my case. This rosin fixed the problem. It has a much tighter grip than what I was using, which allows for better articulation. Eudoxas respond dynamically to bow speed, which this rosin helps to regulate. I can't say if a generic light-rosin would work as well, but if you can afford $80+ on a set of strings, the suggested rosin is worth a try. I was a bit incredulous about the claims of matching rosin to a particular string. I'm a believer now, at least in this case. The better grip did increase the volume of the strings a bit. For me that is a drawback. My violin is younger and tends toward a bright tone and loud volume. This fact is outweighed by the better grip of the rosin on the strings.
