About this item

The Pirastro Korfker Rest is designed to complement the timeless beauty of the violin. It is the first shoulder rest to use bendable maple tone-wood which can be carefully adjusted to the shape of the player's shoulder. The end members offer extensive and precise personal adjustment of position, height and tilt. The minimal use of rubber improves the sound characteristic, letting your instrument vibrate freely.

Worth the price?Yes. It is extremely well made and works as advertised.Easy to setup? If you are meticulous and take your time - yes. AND you’ll be rewarded with a very stable, super-light and comfortable shoulder rest that improves the tone (it’s very noticeable) of your violin. If you are impatient and in a hurry- it’s not for you.The light weigh, and the range of adjustability are really what I needed for my shape. As a middle aged noob, i knew right away that if I couldn’t find a comfortable, secure rest that I would be struggling at infinitum. I paid much more for this rest than I did for the used violin I own. But when I upgrade violins the KorfkerRest will remain as my ace of spades (the only card I need).

First, am I a professional violinist? …Nope…but…I straddled the fence on this purchase for years, always allowing the price tag on this rest to talk me out of it. No rest was ever super good…I had tried them ALL….they all had at least one significant flaw (weight, height, tilt, slippage, fit), and I resigned myself to accept that I just had to work with it. I had hard time believing this would be no different. Straight up, I’ve never had a rest hold and keep my violin in same position effortlessly which allows me to not use my left hand as a support in some form or another, or cause some kind of strain on my left side. I could conduct a symphony left-handed and feel confident my violin would stay in place…lol…ok slight exaggeration… lol… but I do now have that rest. I could cry I have not had this for last few years. Feather-weight…no strain of any kind. No continual fighting to keep in place. Yes it takes patience and experimentation to get it just right. Yes you need to watch and study the videos. But I can say I’m honestly there now. If you have invested in a fine violin, and a fine bow, please don’t stop there. This makes a wonderful difference for me. Does everyone need this rest? Maybe not but if you are like me and have settled, and just “work with what you got,” then I would say, why not? You can’t lose. Amazon return policy rules. I’m so happy I did. German engineering…they really put so much analyzation and thought into this creation. There is no way they did not…don’t settle for what you have. Seek out and find what could be. I can now appreciate the price tag for this product. Wow.

I got this for my son’s violin. This is pricey, but we invested in a decent instrument for him so it seems silly to skimp on things like shoulder rests. It’s available on Shar, but I wanted the Amazon 2-day shipping. His teacher says he has a long neck, and she was suggesting different ways we could jerry-rig his Everest shoulder rest with sponges etc. He needs his shoulder rest to be higher and also to tilt the violin forward so that the f-holes are pointed more toward the audience and not the ceiling, if that makes sense. The pirastro korfkerRest does all that and more! You can adjust the wideness/narrowness of the feet, the tilt of the rest, the height of the rest, and even bend the wood to fit your shoulder. It is a fraction of the weight of his old shoulder rest.My son used the rest at orchestra practice for the first time today and when I asked him how it was he said “really good,” which is high praise from him (a man of very temperate opinions and few words haha).I think the rest has also opened the sound of his instrument to be bigger and more resonant. This is the last shoulder rest I will buy for a while, with any luck.

Very light and very adjustable. Good for both short- and long-neckers;) However, it still affects the sound of a violin in a pretty much same way as other cheaper shoulder rests do, so little disappointment here, especially considering its price. Apparently, one still has to use no shoulder rest at all for the most resonant sound. Anyways, I've been using it for a month already and decided to stick with it for a longer while. Can recommend it for advanced students and professionals.

If you want to up your game to the next level, this is a great investment. I learned of this shoulder rest from my instructor, who is a professional musician. I am an IT professional who plays violin as a passionate amateur. I have a low end professional violin and bow (20-30K range). Here are the pros for this shoulder rest:1. It significantly reduces the dampening effect of other shoulder rests, which for me has produced a significant improvement in tone of my violin, for me especially in clarity and quality of tone in the lower and upper registers.2. It is self-conforming over time to the shape of your body.3. It's significantly lighter than my previous bon musica adjustable shoulder rest.4. I'm fairly tall and have a rather long neck. The height of this rest, combined with the Kreddle chin rest is the best height match for me for best ergonomics.5. It's very beautiful.6. I have a tension problem when I play, and frequently have pulled the previous shoulder rest off the instrument while playing. After playing for a few hours on the Korkfer rest, I got used to the rest and have concentrated on releasing the tension during play. It has not slipped off since I've gotten used to it7. At this price point, vs. the next level at 1K for the Korfker cradle, while you don't get the order of magnitude improvement in tone, you still get about 5x improvement.

We have spent hours watching the instruction videos, reading the manual, adjusting it, taking it to 30 year master violin teachers and master luthiers in Chicago, and it simply falls off, including during a concerto competition and during multiple orchestra performances where my son was the concert master. We have bought three of these because our son likes the light weight and all fall off, typically at terrible and embarrassing times. We are extremely disappointed.
