I have a Swiss sliding Gauge that looks very much like this with brand name of GEM. It was purchased in the 90s.I bought two of the gauges I am rating here, and they will do the same as the GEM, but with much difficulty. The little slide is meant to be moved with the thumb and should slide easily to get a precise measurement. The two I got require two hands to move the slide and it will not move easily. Even with two hands, it moves in spurts or jerks.It is difficult to hold what you are measuring such as a lense in eyeglasses or little jewelry crystals.I tried moving it back and forth many times thinking that would loosen it up, but it did not.Amazon kept emailing me to rate this. Not wanting to be unfair to the company in case I got two defective ones, I emailed them in October and told them the problem. They responded very quickly and said they would have someone check it out on the next Monday. This is December, and they never contacted me again.I assume they found out about the sticky slide and decided to ignore it. My first impression of their quick response to notifying them of the problem is down graded to what most people would feel when they are ignored after taking the time to solve a problem.
