I’m using this as a cute little counter top trash can. Looks great beside my canisters. My only complaint is I wish it had a plastic insert so I could use trash bags without them showing, but I know it’s designed to be a compost bin.

This large compost container is a major upgrade from the repurposed smaller plastic container I'd been using. I've had it for about a month and it's made composting less of a hassle because I don't need to empty it as frequently, I can open and close it with one hand, and the handle makes it a cinch to move from the refrigerator to the countertop. The container is bigger than it looks in my picture and took up a fair amount of counter space, so I wound up storing it in the fridge where I had more room and where odor wouldn't be an issue. The compost container came with two layers of replaceable carbon filters preinstalled in the lid, a disk and a square (see my photo), plus the lid is perforated, all of which should provide good odor control at room temperature. I'm also impressed by how durable the enamel coating is: I've banged it several times and even dropped it once or twice and there's nary a scratch in the finish. The metal is heavy and sturdy, so there aren't any dents or dings either. A standard-sized plastic produce bag from the grocery store fits perfectly inside and I simply remove it when it's full and walk to my composting center with that instead of carrying the whole container with me as I used to do.I'm very pleased with the quality and functionality of this compost container and recommend it. Just check the measurements to be sure you have space for it and you'll be good to go.

So, it's a compost bucket. And we love it. We love the size - - it's large. We love that it keeps the compost scraps out of sight of both eyes and nose. I would give it five stars, except it has multiple cosmetic issues. If you're sensitive to that, consider which version to buy. We got the unpainted, silver version. The can and the lid are finished differently. The lid looks like dull stainless steel or even nickel plated steel. The can, itself, is shiny and looks like galvanized steel. The surface of the can is covered with hundreds of cloudy spots. That makes me think it's galvanized. Those cloudy spots look like fingerprints, but even powerful cleaners do not remove them. Whatever the finish is on the lid, it seems to be coming off the interior that is exposed to the food scraps. You can see that in a few of my photos. We have used no metal utensils that might scratch the compost bucket. It's doing this because of exposure to the contents of the can. If these cosmetic issues are of concern to you, then go for one of the painted versions. If the painted color is actually enamelware, then that's the best choice. No complaints, here, actually. We like this compost bucket, and we've been using it for over a month. The price at around $25 is pretty good.

I've been using the Plexon Countertop Compost Bin with Lid in Gray for a while now, and I must say, it's a clever solution for managing food waste in a stylish and practical manner. This 1.5-gallon steel bucket is not just for composting; I've found it to be an excellent container for storing wild bird seed right by my office window. The design is sleek and professional, blending seamlessly with my office decor. The charcoal filter in the lid does a fantastic job of keeping any potential odors at bay, which is crucial when you're dealing with bird seed that can sometimes get a bit musty. Plus, the steel construction ensures it's durable and easy to clean, which is a big plus for someone like me who appreciates a tidy workspace. Now, here's a little caveat for those considering this product: while it's perfect for my needs, some might find the steel material a bit heavier than plastic alternatives. But for me, the durability and the professional look outweigh any minor inconvenience in weight.I've had a few colleagues comment on how neat and organized my bird feeding setup looks, thanks to this bin. It's not just functional; it's also a conversation starter. I've even used it to store other small items when not in use for bird seed, showcasing its versatility. In summary, the Plexon Countertop Compost Bin is a smart, stylish, and practical choice for anyone looking to manage food waste or, in my case, bird seed, with a touch of elegance. It's a small investment that pays off in keeping your space clean, organized, and odor-free. Yes, I'm getting another for composting!

This is a great compost bin for counter top or under cabinet use. It's even got a nice sturdy handle that you could use to hang it on a hook. This is larger than other compost bins I've had in the past. It holds a couple days worth of veggie scraps without unpleasant odors hanging around. I ordered the metallic can, which looks like more like a trash can. It looks nice, I just wish I had ordered one of the colored ones. They would look better for counter top use. For my needs, which is under cabinet, it's just fine and holds a lot.The odor control is handled by two 5" square carbon filters inside the lid. Before things got gross, I took one of the filters out to see what they were and how they went in. You just have to grab them and pull them out one at a time. One lower one and one upper one. This double layer of filters not only keeps the odors at bay, they also do a good job of keeping flies in or out.I like my new compost bin much better than my previous one. It's bigger and weighs a little more, but is built well, not made out of cheap thin metal and it's got a handle so you can take the whole thing outside without having to remove an interior bucket that has to then be taken out. Much nicer to take the whole thing outside before taking the lid off.
