These "H-clips" seem to work OK, but they stand about 1/8" proud of both top & bottom surfaces of the panels you're joining, which could be problematic depending on what goes on top of them. They are made of plastic, but they must be glass-fiber reinforced or something, because they do seem plenty sturdy. They also create a 1/8" gap between panels which you may need to account for.

Slightly more difficult to install because they are right but they won’t corrode or bend like metal. They did well supporting the boards.
