End area is .05 square inch. Compressive load in tons per square foot or kg per square cm is indicated by reading scale on piston barrel. Maximum reading reach is shown by friction ring. Made of anodized aluminum. Allen wrench and plastic carrying case with belt loop are included. 6-1/4" Long.

its tons per sqft, so 1.0 is 2,000psf, 1.5 is 3,000psf, 2 is 4,000psf. works great

Useful. Quick tests showed our soil had a much lower bearing capacity than anticipated and required wider footings.

With soils engineers there is not a lot of use for this for the average Joe. I use it when teaching excavation safety classes.

I use this in a class I teach on soils. I have the students use it on Styrofoam which gives readings similar to common soil without the mess.
