The positives: The first thing you'll notice when you open this is how sturdy it is. It feels like a tool that will last so long that you'll be able to hand down to your grandchildren. It works great, getting potatoes just the right texture. So far I've only used it on potatoes, but of course you could mash just about anything with it. (I don't think the juicing would work very well though - you'd likely end up with juice squirting all over the place.)There are two negatives:1) It makes a mess of itself, getting potatoes all over the hopper & around the hinge area. I thought that since it's dishwasher safe, that would do the trick, but it doesn't. Even after pre-cleaning it with hot water and a brush, then putting it in the dishwasher, it still had little potato bits all over it that I had to pick off with my nails. See my photos. Also just a side note, the product page says that it has removable parts, but it does not.2) The way the handles are shaped make it uncomfortable to squeeze more than a few times. It sure would have been nice if they would have put some kind of padding on the handles. I was able to slide those pot handle hot pads over them and that helps somewhat, but if I had to do a lot of mashing, I'd probably choose a different tool.

This item is big so be sure you have somewhere to store it. I guess these have to be big by their very nature, which is fine but when I opened it, I had no idea! With limited cabinet space, I had to sort of re-organize things. But I used this the other night for the first time, having no real idea about how mashed potato-changing it would be!! I boiled small chunks of peeled potatoes to fork tender, then I allowed them to cool for a few minutes so as not to burn myself when loading the hopper. Then, I just squeezed the handles together, which was so easy to do, and voilà ! Riced potatoes. I had gotten my mixer out and ready to mix. I loaded my bowl first with some slices of butter. Then, as I was mixing the potatoes with the butter it was clear, I would not need a mixer. It was amazing as mashed potatoes just sort of happened! And so easily. I added sour cream and a touch of cream. These were the creamiest, most lump free mashed potatoes I ever made and without a mixer! I don’t know why I waited so long to get one. If you love creamy mashed potats, this is a must-have kitchen tool. It will change your potato life if you’ve never used one.

This rices potatoes so that mashed potatoes have a smooth silky texture that I absolutely love! No more clumps and no sticky potatoes. If you use a beater, the potatoes come out like glue. This ricer is a must if you really like mashed potatoes and like them smooth with no lumps. It is sturdy and large enough so that you can do a decent batch each time. The negative is that the handles are terrible. They definitely need to improve the handles. I need to wear a pair of gloves or mittens to work it because the handles hurt so much when pressing the potatoes through.I looked at other ricers, and this one is priced very well - so I would say this is a great value. But if the handles hurting is an issue for you, you might want to get a higher priced ricer that has better handles that have grips or something so it doesn't hurt so much to use. Otherwise, use some gloves like I do.

I’ve actually never used a potable ricer before this but what I can tell you is that as long as your potatoes are fork tender, they will smash like butter. This ricer is quite large, but that just means I can get the job done quicker. It works really well being that it’s super easy to use. All I had to do was whip in my cream and butter after this. And I can just spray it off in the sink to remove all of the potted residue then clean like normal.

This river is very large and bulky.. I found it painful because the handles are sharp and it hurts to grip, not ergonomic at all. It's very difficult to clean as it doesn't come apart at all. It does it's job if you can stand the weight and poor handle design.

The potato ricer arrived on time and as advertised. The ricer looks like a restaurant quality piece of equipment. It is solid and very heavy. To test it, I peeled several large russet potatoes, cut them into pieces small enough to fit in the ricer basket, and boiled them until they were soft but not mushy. I drained the pieces and let them cool a bit. I put a piece into the basket, grasped the handles with one hand, (which was difficult to do because they are spread far apart when there are potato pieces in the basket) and squeezed them together. It took more strength that I had with one hand, so I had to use both hands to press the potato pulp thru the holes in the basket. The handles are bare metal and the edges dug into my hands and hurt. Some of the potato strings squirted out onto the counter and made a starchy mess. When finished, I had a large container filled with what looked like potato spaghetti. It did make nice, smooth mashed potatoes but it was a lot of effort. I am not that much of a gourmet to want to do all that work and cleanup for mashed potatoes, but if you have strong hands and can more easily use this large piece of equipment, this potato ricer is for you. I gave it 4 stars because it performed like the professional piece of kitchen equipment it is. I just couldn't give it that fifth star because it was difficult for me to operate and it hurt my hands.
