Full disclosure - this was a gift for my lady who recently completed her clerkship. I decided to buy this as a decorative object for her office back at her law firm. The gavel is beautiful - well constructed, the brass adds a touch of elegance to the otherwise judicious appeal. And, it makes a solid sound when the sound block is struck. Nancy Pelosi should have taken this one when she assumed the role!

The gavel has a good weight and feel! The handle of the gavel has a good grip. I just received it so I won't know how it holds up as a 17 year old, Senior Class President bangs on it for the next year! lol but I know it will be fun. I don't know if more expensive models would have a fabric back on the sound block but I can see how that might take it to the next level. Never the less, my nephew, a future lawyer and maybe a judge will love it!
