Pumps use mechanical action to move liquids, gases, or slurries (solids suspended in a liquid or gas). The mechanical action is categorized as either positive displacement (PD) or kinetic. PD pumps capture and release discrete amounts of flow into a chamber and then force it out. Some examples of PD pumps are fuel and oil pumps in cars, pumps in hydraulic systems, and bicycle pumps. Kinetic pumps move liquids, gases, or slurries by transferring energy from the pump's movement to the flow. They use an impeller to draw the flow in, add energy to the flow, and move it through a volute (a spiral funnel through which the flow moves), and into the system.  Some examples of kinetic pumps include centrifugal (the most common pump in industrial applications), in-line pumps, sump pumps, and suction pumps. Energy sources for all types of pumps include wind power, manual operation, electricity, and gasoline or diesel fuel.

Procon manufactures pumps for clean liquid transfer applications. The company, founded in 1950, is headquartered in Smyrna, TN.

Procon pumps have been around for a good while. They have been used for a lot of different applications. Procon understands the needs of the different applications and makes different variations of this pump available to meet those needs. Each pump model is "defined" by its number (Example: 111A100F11AA...). If you are looking for an exact replacement for an existing application that currently uses a Procon pump....then you would be well served to purchase a new pump with the same model number. If on the other hand you are just looking for a pump for a project, this one might very well be what you need. I would encourage you to visit the Procon website to look up the features of this pump (and others...). You may find that a different version would perform better for your application.I have used several Procon pumps over the past few years. All of them have performed perfectly. When mated up with the correct motor and sized appropriately, they function reliably and don't typically fail while in use. Keep in mind that these pumps are a "rotary vane" style. That means that the "internals" run in contact with each other. This means that there is some wear happening as the pump runs. Eventually, the pump will wear to the point where it will start to seep through a seal and you may notice a leak. This should be an indication to you that the pump needs to be serviced or replaced. How long the pump will run before it needs to be serviced will depend on the severity of the usage. In any event, I have never had to replace one that I installed as a new installation or a replacement. But I know that they will eventually leak if they are being used. I know it because I have seen them leaking.....and replaced them.My latest usage was in a project that did not require a specific pump model. I built a TIG torch cooler with all of the best features, utilizing this pump, bypass and pressure control valves, filters, temperature monitors, and cooling fan and radiator. The pump performs flawlessly and quietly. I did not expect any problems, and I wasn't disappointed.Five (5) stars for an excellent product that meets and exceeds all expectations. Properly installed and monitored, this pump will offer reliable service for a long time......and what's more, it can be rebuilt by the factory!!! You can't ask for anything more than that.

I am using this pump as a direct replacement for an identical pump inside a torch cooler for an Esab CNC plasma burn table. The pump has what appears to be fiberglass reinforced plastic vanes that pump the fluid. Something got in our cooling water, found its way to the pump, and exploded all of the vanes off of the impeller throwing plastic and other trash into the cooling system and into the torch head. Be careful to filter the fluid going into the pump on the inlet side so something similar doesnt happen to whatever project you are using your pump for.

Welders can consider this as a replacement pump for a Bernard 2500 tig cooler - This clamps right in place with the tang lining up to the drive/fan motor, and fitting size matches draw tube and ouput lines.
